49ers among teams that made preliminary inquiries about Colts RB Marlon Mack

Oct 21, 2021 at 7:25 AM--

Josina Anderson reports that the San Francisco 49ers are among the teams that made preliminary inquiries about Indianapolis Colts running back Marlon Mack over the last few weeks. The other teams mentioned are the Kansas City Chiefs, Carolina Panthers, and New Orleans Saints.

Mack's role has been reduced due to the presence of Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines. Last month, Mack and the Colts mutually agreed to seek a trade as the fifth-year back looks to own a more significant role with a team.

Mack rushed for 1,091 yards and eight rushing touchdowns for the Colts in 2019 and had 908 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns a season earlier. His 2020 campaign ended early after the running back landed on injured reserve due to a torn Achilles.

Mack has just 25 carries for 97 yards through four games this season.

San Francisco lost its starting running back, Raheem Mostert, for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury. The team drafted two running backs — Trey Sermon and Elijah Mitchell — in April.

The 49ers opened the practice window for running back JaMycal Hasty this week. He is expected to be activated from injured reserve soon, possibly before Sunday's matchup against the Colts.

49ers receiver Deebo Samuel has made quite the stride in his third NFL season, as he's already caught 54 passes for 979 yards and seven total touchdowns through just nine games. Last year, Samuel had a mild sophomore season after an impressive rookie year due to a variety of hamstring injuries and a foot fracture, limiting the receiver to just seven games last season, in which he accumulated 33 receptions for 391 yards after a 57-catch, 802-yard rookie campaign. Deebo's rapport with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been made evident this year, best encapsulated by a specific play on Monday Night against the Rams in which the veteran quarterback trusted his receiver to make a play even before Samuel was

In a special for FOX Sports, analyst Bucky Brooks ranked his top five NFL rookies through Week 10, and San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell received some love. The Louisiana product landed at No. 5 on Brooks' power ranking. "Elijah Mitchell was a sixth-round pick, and who thought he would be able to make an immediate impact?" Brooks said. "Well, the San Francisco 49ers did because this is what they do at the running back position. They typically take late-round picks, and they transform them and make them stars. "Elijah Mitchell might be the next one to get it done in Kyle Shanahan's offense. He already has over 500 yards, he has three touchdowns, and if you've got a chance to check them out against the Rams, Elijah Mitchell was making it

By David Bonilla
Nov 24

Voting for the upcoming Pro Bowl has been underway for a while now. The NFL released some stats on the leading vote-getters so far. Two San Francisco 49ers currently lead their respective positions. Kyle Juszczyk leads all fullbacks with 70,362 fan votes. Nick Bosa leads NFC defensive ends with 68,143 votes. Juszczyk, a nine-year veteran, has been named to the last five Pro Bowls, with the first coming in 2016. He is widely considered to be the best fullback in the NFL. Although, his 62.5 overall Pro Football Focus grade this season is his lowest mark since his rookie campaign. Bosa is proving to be even more dominant than he was in his 2019 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year campaign. He has already surpassed his rookie sack total of nine with a
