John Lynch provides injury updates on 49ers’ Javon Kinlaw, Emmanuel Moseley; Week 1 in question

Sep 10, 2021 at 8:44 AM--

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch joined KNBR's Murph & Mac show this morning. He provided a couple of important Week 1 updates surrounding two defensive players. Lynch was first asked about defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, who has missed practices due to a knee injury. Although, he was limited on Thursday, which was an upgrade.

"He came down on that [knee] at Dallas last year, and that led to some issues," Lynch said. "You know, it's kind of a deal where we've been able to quiet it down at times. And other times, it gets flared up. He was doing really well throughout the offseason, and it kind of flared up on him again at some point a couple of weeks ago.

"We tried to quiet it down, but it's not working real well right now. But the good news is that he was out on the practice field yesterday for some. As for this week, we'll still see. We're meeting this morning [to] kind of see where he's at.

"But we feel confident that we're going to get a lot of good football out of Javon this year. ... He's a huge man who has an incredible amount of power in him. We're so proud of him. We're excited for him, the amount of work he's put in. We've just got to get him right so we can see that talent come to fruition."

Lynch also discussed the cornerback situation with starter Emmanuel Moseley ailing.

"Unfortunately, last week ... I get a text from our trainers saying, 'Hey [Moseley] just got fallen on in practice,'" Lynch shared. "It's like a getaway practice where we're off for the weekend after that, and he just got tripped up, fallen on. And so, he's got a little bit of an issue.

"He's working through [it]. We'll see for this weekend, but I think after that, it's looking good."

"And when we have, it's gotten better. So, you've got to see how that continues to react. I think we'll be easy with him today.

"A little worse than a stinger," Shanahan said, "so that's why he can't go today. He's got a chance at Sunday." The team's other rookie running back, Trey Sermon, practiced with a blue no-contact jersey on. He remains in the concussion protocol after suffering a blow to the head on his first NFL

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 3 contest against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Safety Jimmie Ward, linebacker Fred Warner, and tackle Trent Williams returned to practice after receiving Wednesday off. None are dealing with injuries. Running back Elijah Mitchell remains out.
