The San Francisco 49ers have released linebacker Mychal Kendricks off of injured reserve, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. This was likely done with an injury settlement.

The Niners placed Kendricks on injured reserve on August 24 due to what head coach Kyle Shanahan said was "a turf-toe sprain." The linebacker was scheduled to earn $1.215 million, including a $200,000 bonus, on the one-year deal signed with San Francisco on August 16.

The Philadelphia Eagles made Kendricks a second-round draft pick out of California-Berkeley in 2012. Throughout his nine-year NFL career with the Eagles (2012-17), Seattle Seahawks (2018-20), and Washington Football Team (2020), the linebacker has appeared in 104 games with 91 starts and registered 536 tackles, 30 passes defensed, 19 sacks, seven forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and four interceptions.

"I mean we played against Mychal for a long time," Shanahan said of Kendricks' fit with the team after the report of the linebacker's signing surfaced. "I mean, going back when I was in the NFC East, going against him in Philly all the time. And he's done a hell of a job in Seattle these last couple of years."
