49ers signing Pro Bowl safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, per report

Aug 11, 2021 at 12:06 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers are signing former first-round pick, safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, per the player's agent and via ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Clinton-Dix was one of several safeties who worked out for the Niners. The depth at the position has taken a hit with Jaquiski Tartt (toe) not expected to return anytime soon and Tony Jefferson dealing with a groin/hamstring tweak.

The Green Bay Packers drafted Clinton-Dix (6-1, 211) out of Alabama with the No. 21 overall pick in 2014. He registered 78 tackles, five passes defensed, two interceptions, and a touchdown through 16 games with the Chicago Bears in 2019. Clinton-Dix did not play last season after signing with the Dallas Cowboys and failing to make the final roster.

The safety also spent time with the Washington Football Team.

Clinton-Dix, 28, has recorded 522 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 33 passes defensed, 16 interceptions, a touchdown, and four forced fumbles through his five NFL seasons (not counting last year). He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2016 and named a second-team All-Pro that same season.

By David Bonilla

With the free-agency frenzy long gone and the NFL Draft behind us, NFL teams will move toward tweaking their rosters in preparation for the 2022 season. It's worth noting that there are still some well-known free agents awaiting offers—names like Jadeveon Clowney and Odell Beckham Jr. Veteran center J.C. General manager John Lynch is sounding less confident about the possibility of his starting center returning for his 14th NFL season. However, it's not Tretter that Pro Football Focus analyst Ben Linsey believes would be a good signing by the 49ers. Instead,

Do the 49ers currently have what it takes to win Super Bowl LVII?

By Marc Adams

When we last saw them, the San Francisco 49ers were leaving the field after a devastating loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game. The 49ers made a lot of moves during free agency. Some were positive, like adding a starting cornerback in Charvarius Ward. Some were negative, like not bringing back players D.J. Jones and Laken Tomlinson. But the team has added a large draft class, as well as a large group of undrafted free agents. The 49ers have also experienced changes to the coaching staff, front office, and scouting departments. It's been an offseason of transformation so far, and we're still almost three months away from training camp. Next week, the NFL schedule comes out, so we should have a better feel for how the season may play out. For
