Clinton-Dix was one of several safeties who worked out for the Niners. The depth at the position has taken a hit with Jaquiski Tartt (toe) not expected to return anytime soon and Tony Jefferson dealing with a groin/hamstring tweak.
The Green Bay Packers drafted Clinton-Dix (6-1, 211) out of Alabama with the No. 21 overall pick in 2014. He registered 78 tackles, five passes defensed, two interceptions, and a touchdown through 16 games with the Chicago Bears in 2019. Clinton-Dix did not play last season after signing with the Dallas Cowboys and failing to make the final roster.
The safety also spent time with the Washington Football Team.
Clinton-Dix, 28, has recorded 522 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 33 passes defensed, 16 interceptions, a touchdown, and four forced fumbles through his five NFL seasons (not counting last year). He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2016 and named a second-team All-Pro that same season.
