According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the San Francisco 49ers are once again working out defensive tackle Eddie Vanderdoes. The veteran defender worked out for the team last month.

The then-Oakland Raiders made Vanderdoes (6-3, 315) a third-round selection out of UCLA in 2017. As Fowler points out, Vanderdoes opted out last season due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic. He also missed the 2018 season as he attempted to recover from an ACL injury suffered at the end of the 2017 season.
Vanderdoes, 26, has recorded 26 tackles, two tackles for a loss, and two quarterback hits through his two NFL seasons played (2017, 2019). While he appeared in all 16 games with 13 starts as a rookie in 2017, the defender appeared in just three games with the Houston Texans in 2019. The Texans released him with a non-football injury designation this past February.
Niners defensive lineman Arik Armstead hasn't practiced since August 4 due to a groin injury. He is considered to be day-to-day. The team could be looking at practice options in case the depth along the defensive line takes another unexpected hit.
The 49ers are preparing to close out training camp this week and open their preseason on Saturday night by hosting the Kansas City Chiefs at Levi's Stadium.
Update: Aaron Wilson added several other names to the 49ers' workout list. They are cornerback Alexander Myres, linebacker Joey Alfieri, guard Shaq Calhoun, cornerback Jermaine Kelly, linebacker Donald Payne, defensive lineman Elijah Qualls, defensive lineman Quincy Redmon, defensive end Warren Thomas, and defensive end Jonathan Wynn.
