Dan Campbell's admission reveals how Trey Lance is impacting Lions' prep work for 49ers

If the San Francisco 49ers had not drafted Trey Lance with the No. 3 overall pick, the Detroit Lions probably wouldn't be too worried about whoever was backing up Jimmy Garoppolo, assuming Garoppolo remained with the team. Instead, the Lions would be focused on stopping the veteran quarterback and him alone. There wouldn't be many thoughts about Nate Sudfeld or whoever sits behind him on the depth chart. The Niners did draft Lance, though. Then head coach Kyle Shanahan showed off an unorthodox game plan in the team's preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders, swapping between Garoppolo and Lance in the middle of drives. The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 1 contest against the Detroit Lions on Sunday at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. Trey Lance continues to look good throwing footballs during the portions of practice that are open to the media. The rookie quarterback is recovering from a chipped bone in his finger, an injury suffered on August 29 against the Las Vegas Raiders. For now, things appear to be trending in the direction of Lance being available on Sunday. He was limited today. No brace, no splinter, no problem it appears for QB Trey Lance ahead of Week 1.

49ers remain cautious about QB Trey Lance's Sunday status as he rebounds from injured finger

Trey Lance's finger appears to be healing fast enough for him to be ready to play against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, but the 49ers are still taking things one day at a time as they continue to assess his status. Lance has been working his way back to full practice participation after injuring his finger when his hand hit the helmet of a defensive player during the 49ers' preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders on August 29. He was seen throwing at practice Thursday without any visible problems after shedding the splint he was wearing days earlier, but the 49ers still listed him as limited during their Thursday injury
