49ers sign 3rd-round draft pick Trey Sermon to 4-yr, $4.9 million deal

The San Francisco 49ers announced that the team has signed running back
Trey Sermon, who played college football at Ohio State and Oklahoma, to his four-year rookie deal. The 49ers selected him in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft with the No. 88 overall pick.
The signing leaves quarterback
Trey Lance, the No. 3 overall pick, and cornerback
Ambry Thomas, another third-rounder, as the only unsigned rookies from this year's draft class.
Sermon carried the football 116 times for 870 yards with four rushing touchdowns while adding 12 receptions for 95 yards through eight games as a senior in 2020, per
Sports Reference. The running back's best statistical season came in 2018 when he rushed for 947 yards and 13 touchdowns on 164 carries.
Sermon gained 2,946 rushing yards on 455 attempts with 26 rushing touchdowns through his four collegiate seasons.
Thanks to the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which runs through the 2030 season, all rookie contracts are for a length of four years.
The total value of Sermon's four-year contract is set to be $4,872,934, per OverTheCap.com. That includes a signing bonus of $903,952 and a 2021 salary-cap figure of $885,988.

The San Francisco 49ers announced that they have signed cornerback Ken Crawley to a one-year deal. To make room on the roster, the team has waived/injured safety Leon O'Neal Jr.
O'Neal tweeted the following on Tuesday, hinting that his time with the 49ers has been cut short. According to reporter Rohan Chakravarthi, the defender was on Instagram, saying that he had sustained a strained groin.

Kyle Shanahan: 49ers were 'locked in' on Trey Lance and Mac Jones leading to 2021 draft
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan joined the I Am Athlete podcast and was asked about the process leading to the team selecting quarterback Trey Lance with the No. 3 overall draft pick last year. There was a lot of speculation surrounding who the 49ers were looking to draft after trading up from the No. 12 spot. Many felt Shanahan had targeted quarterback Mac Jones, while many fans scoffed at the idea.
Jones was a target—along with Lance.

49ers were reportedly baffled by Jimmy Garoppolo's vanishing act after signing mega-deal
By now, most have heard about Jimmy Garoppolo's offseason vanishing acts. Tight end George Kittle has called him the "worst texter of all time," saying that even he has difficulty getting a hold of the San Francisco 49ers quarterback outside of team-organized activities.
Garoppolo typically becomes a ghost for much of the early portion of the offseason. That reportedly took the 49ers by surprise after the quarterback signed his five-year mega-deal with the team in February of 2018.
