49ers sign safety Tony Jefferson to a one-year deal, release corner Briean Boddy-Calhoun

Jun 7, 2021 at 6:34 AM--

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the San Francisco 49ers are signing former Baltimore Ravens safety Tony Jefferson. The team worked him out in April.

The 49ers later announced that the deal is for one year. The team made room on the roster by releasing cornerback Briean Boddy-Calhoun.

Jefferson has not played since Week 5 of the 2019 season when he suffered a torn ACL. The Ravens released him on February 14, 2020. The defender underwent a physical while visiting with the 49ers earlier this offseason.

The Arizona Cardinals signed Jefferson as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma in 2013. He registered 21 tackles and three passes defensed through his five games in 2019, per Pro Football Reference.

Jefferson, 29, has recorded 451 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 22 passes defensed, four interceptions, a touchdown, and eight forced fumbles through his seven NFL seasons.

Boddy-Calhoun appeared in one game with the 49ers in 2020 and spent time on the team's practice squad before being waived on December 14, 2020. He re-signed with the team on March 17.

The San Francisco 49ers added some depth and experience to their offensive line on Friday, signing versatile veteran Senio Kelemete to a one-year deal. To make room for Kelemete on the roster, the 49ers waived third-year lineman Justin Skule with an injured designation. Skule will be out for the 2021 season after tearing his ACL at practice earlier this week. Kelemete (6-3, 301) is in his ninth NFL season after being selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL Draft out of the University of

For The Record - 49ers CB Deommodore Lenoir

My apologies for the delay on my end for the two-week hiatus--life comes at you fast! I plan on finishing off the "For The Record" series with the remaining players along with a full evaluation of the 49ers' draft class with consideration to the recent training camp injuries (safety Tarvarius Moore, offensive lineman Justin Skule). While NFL Draft pundits and fans alike can give instant reactions to their team's player selections, it's easy to forget that the true value of the picks cannot be fully assessed until after a couple of seasons. Some players become instant starters (Nick Bosa), while others remain works in progress (Javon Kinlaw). Having said that, I want to pull out the receipts on what draft analysts were saying prior to the draft, along with their

With a new NFL season around the corner, coaching staffs are starting to get a feel for the teams they will be marching into battle with. The San Francisco 49ers have spent the last few months solidifying their roster from top to bottom. With many key players returning from injury, the 49ers have a strong group, with most of the starting positions locked up. There will be several depth positions available for grabs. After a disastrous 2020 season, the 49ers learned that quality depth at all position groups is critical. Here are a few players who find themselves on the roster bubble and will all need to stand out in training camp if they want to earn a roster spot. Josh Rosen, QB
