According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the San Francisco 49ers are signing former Baltimore Ravens safety Tony Jefferson. The team worked him out in April.
Former Ravens' safety Tony Jefferson, who hasn't played since he tore his ACL in 2019, is coming back and signing with the San Francisco 49ers, per source.
The 49ers later announced that the deal is for one year. The team made room on the roster by releasing cornerback Briean Boddy-Calhoun.
Jefferson has not played since Week 5 of the 2019 season when he suffered a torn ACL. The Ravens released him on February 14, 2020. The defender underwent a physical while visiting with the 49ers earlier this offseason.
The Arizona Cardinals signed Jefferson as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma in 2013. He registered 21 tackles and three passes defensed through his five games in 2019, per Pro Football Reference.
Jefferson, 29, has recorded 451 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 22 passes defensed, four interceptions, a touchdown, and eight forced fumbles through his seven NFL seasons.
Boddy-Calhoun appeared in one game with the 49ers in 2020 and spent time on the team's practice squad before being waived on December 14, 2020. He re-signed with the team on March 17.
