49ers sign tight end MyCole Pruitt to a one-year deal

Jun 2, 2021 at 2:54 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers are signing veteran tight end MyCole Pruitt, per the player's agent. The team worked out Pruitt on Wednesday, and the tight end visited with the Baltimore Ravens last week.

The 49ers later announced the signing of Pruitt to a one-year deal.

San Francisco also reportedly worked out veteran tight end Delanie Walker on Wednesday. It is unknown if anything will come of that.

The Minnesota Vikings made Pruitt a fifth-round selection out of Southern Illinois in 2015. He recorded five receptions for 49 yards with two touchdowns through 11 games with the Titans in 2020 and has been with Tennessee since 2018. Before that, the tight end spent time with the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans.

Pruitt, 29, has caught 32 passes for 343 yards with four touchdowns through his six NFL seasons. His Pro Football Focus run-blocking grade of 74.3 ranked seventh among NFL tight ends last season. However, Pruitt's pass-blocking grade saw a significant drop since back-to-back seasons in 2018 and 2019 with a grade of 79.0 or higher. That mark fell to 52.9 in 2020.

Today, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler wrapped up his rankings of NFL players by position group. He capped off the series by ranking the league's top tight ends. Fowler's list is based on input from around the NFL. He surveyed over 50 league executives, coaches, scouts, and players to compile it. "The objective is to identify the best players right now for 2021," wrote Fowler. "This is not a five-year projection or an achievement award. Who's the best today? Pretty simple." The San Francisco 49ers made George Kittle a fifth-round draft pick out of Iowa in 2017, and he has emerged as arguably the league's

Tom Pelissero: One thing Jimmy Garoppolo must do to remain the 49ers' starter in 2021

By David Bonilla
Jul 20, 2021

Jimmy Garoppolo is 24-9 (including the playoffs) as a starter since being traded to the San Francisco 49ers in 2017. The coaching staff doesn't doubt the quarterback's ability to win football games. It perhaps doubts his availability, though, and that prompted the decision to trade up to draft Trey Lance at No. 3 overall. Garoppolo missed 10 games last season and has missed 23 games over the past three. Now, when he looks over his shoulder, he sees a 21-year-old quarterback itching to get onto the football field. So what does Garoppolo need to do to hold onto his starting job in 2021? The answer isn't rocket science and shouldn't come as a surprise. "Stay healthy," NFL Network's Tom Pelissero said on Good Morning Football. "The guy is
