The entire opening week of the NFL's 2021 schedule has been revealed, and the San Francisco 49ers will head on the road to face the Detroit Lions. BetMGM is already listing the Niners as seven-point favorites against the Lions.

No other team is favored by more in its Week 1 matchup. Only the Los Angeles Rams are also favored by seven points in their matchup against the Chicago Bears.

I have set up a 2021 Schedule Tracker to report leaked matchups leading to tonight's complete 272-game NFL schedule reveal. As of this post, the only other confirmed 49ers matchup is a Week 2 road game against the Philadelphia Eagles. That means San Francisco will open the season with back-to-back road games, which last occurred in 2019.

There are other rumored and unconfirmed matchups listed within the tracker, though.

The 2021 matchup between San Francisco and Detroit marks the fifth time the two teams have opened the regular season against one another. The 49ers will face a familiar foe in former Rams quarterback Jared Goff, who was traded to the Lions this offseason. Former Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is now with the Rams.

The 49ers are 38-28-1 all-time against the Lions. San Francisco's last meeting against Detroit came in 2018 and resulted in a 30-27 win. The team's last road meeting against the Lions was a 32-17 loss in 2015.

With the 2024 NFL Draft less than a week away, it's common for the rumor mill to start churning, especially with players who are actively seeking a new contract. It was just two short years ago that WR Deebo Samuel requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers prior to draft day, only for cooler heads to prevail and eventually agree to a new deal. Now, it's WR Brandon Aiyuk's turn to try and get paid and rumors surfaced over the weekend that he too would request to be dealt. While that report was quickly shot down by his agent, there's still a lot of discussion about Aiyuk's future and if other teams will come calling on draft night.
