The San Francisco 49ers are signing veteran free-agent safety Tavon Wilson to a one-year deal, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The move could signify an end of safety Jaquiski Tartt's time with the team. He is an unrestricted free agent.

News of San Francisco's interest in Wilson was first reported by Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. Other 49ers safeties include Jimmie Ward, Tarvarius Moore, and Marcell Harris.

The New England Patriots made Wilson a second-round selection out of Illinois in 2012. He registered 26 tackles, two tackles for a loss, and a pass defensed through 15 games and two starts with the Indianapolis Colts in 2020, per Pro Football Reference.

Wilson, 31, has recorded 383 tackles, five sacks, 21 passes defensed, eight interceptions, a touchdown, and a forced fumble through his nine NFL seasons. He also spent four seasons with the Detroit Lions between his four seasons with New England and one season with Indianapolis.

Wilson's 219 defensive snaps last year were his lowest total since 2015. His 203 special-teams snaps were his most since 2014. Wilson was a member of the Patriots team that knocked off the Seattle Seahawks 28-24 in Super Bowl XLIX.

Note: This article was updated after Rapoport reported that the 49ers were signing Wilson.
