The San Francisco 49ers are signing former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Trent Sherfield to a one-year deal, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
"Sherfield excels on special teams but the Niners like his skill set at receiver and he'll have a chance to grab a role there, especially with Kendrick Bourne gone," wrote Garafolo.

Arizona signed Sherfield as an undrafted free agent out of Vanderbilt in 2018. He registered five receptions for 50 yards through 15 games with the Cardinals in 2020 and has caught 28 passes for 340 yards with a touchdown through his three NFL seasons.
Sherfield, 25, was a restricted free agent who the Cardinals opted not to tender. Had he remained in Arizona, he would have likely had to compete for a spot at the bottom of the depth chart. The receiver may be facing a similar situation with San Francisco. Sherfield's contributions as a core special teams player may help, though. He has played 504 snaps on special teams over the past three seasons, with 424 of those coming in the last two years.
According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Sherfield's deal will pay him $920,000 with $200,000 guaranteed.
