According to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, the San Francisco 49ers are among several teams that have already met with Oregon State running back Jermar Jefferson. The others are the New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers, New York Jets, and Indianapolis Colts.
NFL teams are allowed to conduct up to five video calls with prospects leading to the draft, and each can be a maximum of one hour. Teams will likely meet with as many players as possible heading into April's draft, so a video chat isn't necessarily a good way to gauge a team's interest in a prospect. It's unlike the maximum of 30 physical meetings that were allowed before the pandemic. It is still noteworthy, though.
There is no limit to how many phone conversations NFL teams can conduct with draft prospects.
Jefferson averaged 6.5 yards per carry for the Beavers this past season while rushing for 858 yards and seven touchdowns through just six games. Through 12 games as a freshman in 2018, he rushed for 1,380 yards and got into the end zone 12 times.
Jefferson was named the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year in 2018 and earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors in 2020.
The 2021 NFL Draft is scheduled to begin on April 29.
