Jeremiah has 49ers bolstering O-line in latest mock draft

Feb 16, 2021 at 9:37 AM--

NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah had the San Francisco 49ers selecting former Florida tight end Kyle Pitts in his first mock draft, released last month. In his latest mock draft for NFL.com, the draft analyst has John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan bolstering their offensive line, adding former Northwestern offensive tackle Rashawn Slater.

Offensive tackle Trent Williams is scheduled to become a free agent next month and will require a hefty annual salary to stay with San Francisco. He's worth it, though. Williams was the league's second-highest graded offensive lineman and highest-graded tackle, per Pro Football Focus. Expect him to fetch an annual salary of $20 million or more on the open market.

On the opposite side of Williams was Mike McGlinchey, who earned his best overall Pro Football Focus grade. However, much of that was due to his career-high run-blocking grade of 91.3. McGlinchey's pass-blocking grade of 58.3 was a career-low.

The nice thing about Slater is that he offers some versatility, which Shanahan and company value.

"We'll see what happens with Trent Williams in free agency," Jeremiah wrote of the projected selection, "but even if the Niners are able to re-sign him, Slater could easily slide inside to guard."

Slater opted out of the 2020 season to focus on the draft after the Big Ten initially announced a postponement to its games. The conference later reserved its decision, but the offensive lineman chose to continue focusing on his NFL future.

Slater was credited with allowing zero sacks, one quarterback hit, and five quarterback hurries during his 787 snaps in 2019, helping the offensive lineman climb up draft boards.

Jeremiah on 49ers' pick in latest mock draft: 'I am surprised that everything you hear points toward Jones'

By David Bonilla

With so many smokescreens and teams keeping their strategies close to the vest, it's tough to believe anything you hear when it comes to pre-draft rumors and speculation. Everyone in the media feels the San Francisco 49ers traded up to the No. 3 spot for Alabama quarterback Mac Jones, whether they can make sense of it or not. Much of that is based on what they hear from around the league. Their colleagues and other teams feel Jones might be the pick, despite the overwhelming opinion that the selection would be a reach. NFL Media analyst Bucky Brooks doesn't even view Jones as worthy of a first-round pick, much less No. 3 overall. "Perhaps the Alabama quarterback is a secret member of The Avengers, operating like Tony Stark as Iron Man,"

Dane Brugler released his latest mock draft for The Athletic, and it goes seven rounds deep. The popular opinion is that the San Francisco 49ers will select former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones at No. 3, and the draft analyst follows that narrative. "Coach Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers have seen or are scheduled to see Jones, Justin Fields and Trey Lance throw in person as the organization does due diligence on the top available passers," wrote Brugler. "My initial reaction after San Francisco traded up to No. 3 was Lance, but most of the buzz points to Jones. Ultimately, any of the three quarterbacks could be the pick

Steve Palazzolo is a senior analyst at Pro Football Focus. He recently released his latest first-round mock draft, which isn't necessarily based on what he thinks each NFL team will do with each selection. This one is based on what Palazzolo believes is best for each organization and the picks he would make if the decision were up to him. As is the case with most mock drafts, Palazzolo has quarterbacks Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson going No. 1 and No. 2 overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets, respectively. That brings us to the decision for the San Francisco 49ers. The team traded up to the No. 3 spot last month to acquire a quarterback of the future. It can choose between Justin Fields of Ohio State, Trey Lance of North Dakota State, or Mac Jones of

Brooks, Jeremiah project 49ers' first three picks in 2021 draft

By David Bonilla

NFL Media analysts Bucky Brooks and Daniel Jeremiah went through the exercise of predicting the first three picks for the San Francisco 49ers in this year's draft. The team currently owns one selection in each of the first three rounds — Nos. 3, 43, and 102 overall. The duo took turns during the Path to the Draft segment on NFL Network, with Brooks going first. Jeremiah recently had San Francisco selecting former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones in his latest mock draft. Brooks has been critical of the idea that head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch gave up so much draft capital to select
