49ers CB Jason Verrett also changing his jersey number

By David Bonilla

Add San Francisco 49ers cornerback Jason Verrett to the list of players changing their jersey numbers this offseason. On April 21, the NFL approved a proposal that relaxes the jersey number rules of certain position groups, opening the door for wide receivers, defensive backs, and some others to wear single-digit numbers. On Monday, safety Jaquiski Tartt revealed that he is switching from No. 29 to No. 26. Of course, that doesn't really fall into the rule change. Verrett, however, is switching from No. 22 to No. 2, the number he wore at TCU. It will be his second number change since joining the 49ers in 2019. His initial number was 27. Jason Smith throws out wild theory that 49ers could trade Trey Lance for Aaron Rodgers

And here you thought the Aaron Rodgers-to-San Francisco 49ers chatter was over. I'll preface this by saying what Jason Smith of FOX Sports Radio said about the 49ers and the Green Bay Packers quarterback might be the most ridiculous thing you read today. Now that you have been sufficiently warned, brace yourself, and proceed, if you wish. Smith believes San Francisco remains interested in Rodgers, and drafting Trey Lance of North Dakota State with the No. 3 overall pick last week hasn't changed that. Now, any rational reporter or fan clearly understands that the Niners heard about the disgruntled Green Bay quarterback and did their due diligence, as head coach Kyle

NFL veterans guiding 49ers rookie OL Jaylon Moore as his pro career begins

Like any rookie, 49ers offensive lineman and fifth-round pick Jaylon Moore will have his share of challenges as he becomes acclimated to life in the NFL. But fortunately, he's been able to lean on the advice of a handful of NFL veterans as he prepares to make the jump from Western Michigan University to professional football. Moore spoke with reporters on Wednesday as he and other rookies arrived at 49ers facilities for rookie minicamp this weekend (Friday-Saturday). Among the topics Moore discussed was his relationship with NFL offensive linemen and Western Michigan products Chukwuma Okorafor (Pittsburgh Steelers), Taylor Moton (Carolina Panthers), and Luke Juriga (Philadelphia Eagles). Okorafor in particular is someone Moore has learned a lot from after

Football Outsiders names this position as the 49ers' biggest roster hole

By David Bonilla
May 14, 2021

The San Francisco 49ers own what many expect to be a talented roster for the upcoming season. Of course, that depends on the depth chart not being impacted by the poor injury luck the team endured in 2020. "Assuming everyone stays healthy this year, the 49ers have one of the league's more complete rosters, with no obvious weakness on offense or defense," wrote Vincent Verhei of Football Outsiders in a feature for ESPN. No roster is perfect, though. If you look hard enough, you can always find a weakness. Where would you say that weakness lies with the 49ers? Perhaps the depth at cornerback? Maybe somewhere along the offensive line?
