49ers waive Takk McKinley, add Brandon Aiyuk, Trent Williams, Daniel Helm to reserve/COVID-19 list

Nov 20, 2020 at 1:34 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers officially announced that the team has waived Takkarist McKinley after the defensive end failed his physical due to a groin injury. Matt Barrows of The Athletic first reported the move.

The 49ers also announced that three more players — wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, tight end Daniel Helm, and tackle Trent Williams — have been added to the reserve/COVID-19 list. They become fifth, sixth, and seventh players added to the reserve/COVID-19 list this week. This is the second time on the list for both Aiyuk and Williams.

Defensive lineman Arik Armstead was added to the reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday, one day after the team's loss to the New Orleans Saints. On Wednesday, rookie Javon Kinlaw was added to the list. Then center Hroniss Grasu and linebacker Joe Walker were added on Thursday.

Twelve total 49ers players have landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list at least once since July.

The reserve/COVID-19 list has been created for a player who tests positive for COVID-19 or has been quarantined after having been in close contact with an infected person or persons. If a player falls into either of these categories, his club is required to immediately place the player on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Clubs are not permitted to comment on a player's medical status other than referring to the roster status and may not disclose whether the player is in quarantine or is positive for COVID-19.

Below is a breakdown of the 49ers players who have landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list this year.

  • WR Richie James, Jul 27, removed Aug 4

The San Francisco 49ers announced that exclusive-rights free agent Daniel Brunskill, an offensive lineman, has signed his one-year tender. He played for the San Diego Fleet of the now-defunct AAF league before signing with the 49ers on April 11, 2019. Brunskill, 27, has 30 game appearances and 23 starts through his two seasons in San Francisco. The versatile offensive lineman started all 16 games in 2020 and has experience at center, guard, and tackle. San Francisco also announced that Chase Harrell has been waived. The tight end signed a reserve/future contract with the team on January

Justin Wong just released his latest Mock Draft Roundup. The overwhelming favorite projection for the San Francisco 49ers at the No. 3 overall pick is the selection of quarterback Mac Jones of Alabama. Add NFL Network's Peter Schrager to the list of those following that narrative. The Good Morning Football host released his own mock draft on Thursday morning, and like most others, it has Trevor Lawrence of Clemson and Zach Wilson of BYU coming off the board with the top two selections. Those predictions seem like

NFL restructures offseason programs amid COVID concerns from players

Apr 14, 2021

The NFL's offseason program was scheduled to begin on Monday. Players from several teams came together and opted out of the voluntary portions of Phase 1, deciding to forgo in-person workouts due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. San Francisco 49ers players had not yet made a similar statement. The NFL Players Association (NFLPA) has been pushing for an alteration to the offseason schedule, hoping for no in-person activities until training camp in July, as was the case last offseason. However, the NFL has been pushing for in-person activities to begin after just two weeks of virtual sessions. On Wednesday, the league announced a restructure to the offseason programs. Now, there will be no on-field work until May 17. That will be restricted to no-contact drills,

49ers add QB, CB, bolster O-line and D-line in Dane Brugler 7-round mock draft

Dane Brugler released his latest mock draft for The Athletic, and it goes seven rounds deep. The popular opinion is that the San Francisco 49ers will select former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones at No. 3, and the draft analyst follows that narrative. "Coach Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers have seen or are scheduled to see Jones, Justin Fields and Trey Lance throw in person as the organization does due diligence on the top available passers," wrote Brugler. "My initial reaction after San Francisco traded up to No. 3 was Lance, but most of the buzz points to Jones. Ultimately, any of the three quarterbacks could be the pick
