San Francisco 49ers cornerbacks played well on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Rams despite the constant shuffling of the depth chart due to injuries. Help could be on the way after this weekend.
Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports that slot corner K'Waun Williams could be targeting Week 8 for his return.
"I've heard K'Waun Williams is aiming to return for the Seahawks game on Nov. 1," Barrows wrote in a recent mailbag.
Williams suffered an ACL sprain during the team's Week 4 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles and landed on injured reserve on October 10.
The 49ers are still holding out hope that cornerback Richard Sherman can return soon. A division matchup against his former team might seem like a perfect target date for a return, assuming his recovery is going well.
Sherman was placed on injured reserve after Week 1 due to a calf injury.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan informed reporters last week that the veteran cornerback received injections to reduce the inflammation and increase his chances of returning soon.
"Sherm got the injections and stuff," Shanahan said. "I know now is a matter of time resting it, and you don't go out and see if they've worked yet. You let the injections do their course, and you see how it is, whether it's next week or the week after."
