Rapoport: 49ers’ K’Waun Williams could be back in 3 weeks after ‘somewhat rare ACL sprain’

Oct 6, 2020 at 9:57 AM--

The San Francisco 49ers will place cornerback K'Waun Williams on short-term injured reserve with what head coach Kyle Shanahan described as a knee sprain. The designation will force the cornerback to miss at least three games.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Williams suffered a "somewhat rare ACL sprain," but that three weeks timeline seems to be an appropriate estimate for the defender's recovery.

Williams, 29, left Sunday night's game in the fourth quarter after a collision with an Eagles player. He limped off the field under his own power, left for the team's locker room, and was listed as "questionable" to return.

Jamar Taylor replaced Williams.

Williams has recorded 12 tackles and two passes defensed in four games and two starts this season.

Rapoport: Kyle Shanahan says 49ers are 'definitely considering' Mac Jones but isn't tipping hand

First off, let's make it clear that it would be irresponsible for the San Francisco 49ers to deny anything when it comes to guesswork surrounding their 2021 NFL Draft intentions. Yes, they own the No. 3 overall pick, but that doesn't mean they want everyone to know what they plan to do. Everyone expects quarterbacks Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson to go one and two in the draft ... but it's the NFL Draft. Nothing is a certainty. A national narrative has been created that indicates the favorite to land with San Francisco is former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones. Maybe that will be the case. Maybe not. The team could also select Justin Fields of Ohio State or Trey Lance of North Dakota State. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch are expected to

Peter King of NBC Sports was the first to report that San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch would be in attendance for the second pro days of both Justin Fields of Ohio State and Trey Lance of North Dakota State. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media confirmed that report this morning. #OSU QB Justin Fields has his second Pro Day on Wednesday and

Silver: Some believe 49ers could draft Justin Fields, taking Shanahan's offense to 'another dimension'

As is the case with many analysts, NFL Network's Marc Ross sees Justin Fields of Ohio State as the better prospect when compared to Mac Jones of Alabama. The former Buckeye will hold a second pro day next week, but Ross feels the quarterback has already shown everything he needs to show to NFL teams. "If teams, right now, are still trying to figure out if Justin Fields is the guy, then they've already missed the evaluation, or he's not their guy," Ross told Andrew Siciliano, Bucky Brooks, and Mike Silver on NFL Network. Ross notes that with teams likely already having all of the information they need on the quarterback prospects, it is admirable that Fields is holding another pro day when he has little to gain. "This is just him being a competitor

Why Trey Lance to the 49ers Could Be a Lock

Justin Fields. Mac Jones. Trey Lance. It seems like we have had an insurmountable number of rumors when it comes to these three quarterback prospects, mainly being linked to the San Francisco 49ers. However, it seems as if all those unknowns may be finally leading to something. On Saturday, Michael Lombardi, an NFL writer for the Athletic, came onto The Wrap with Patrick Meagher, and set the narrative straight: the 49ers are not going to draft Justin Fields. With all the speculation surrounding the three intriguing quarterback prospects, news like this is alarming. While I personally would select Fields at number three, eliminating him from the picture clears up the story for the 49ers. Almost all of the rumors surrounding the third pick
