49ers-Eagles Injury Report: Deebo Samuel, George Kittle practice while Jimmy Garoppolo doesn’t

Sep 30, 2020 at 3:39 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 4 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle) was among the 49ers who did not practice. The hope is to get him out there on Thursday or Friday to gauge whether or not he can play on Sunday.

Dee Ford (back) did not practice and head coach Kyle Shanahan said the defensive end is expected to land on injured reserve later this week. Tight end Jordan Reed (knee) will also land on injured reserve this week.

The good news is that Deebo Samuel returned to practice. It has been just over three months since the wide receiver suffered a Jones fracture in his left foot during a player-organized practice in Tennessee. He was placed on injured reserve before Week 1 and can be activated to the 53-man roster at any point going forward.

"He's healthy, so we just want to see him out there and get back in the swing of playing football," Shanahan said before practice. "It's been a while since he has. I know he's been working hard on his own with football and everything with our trainers and everyone else with the rehab.

"We just need to see him go through three days, and what type of shape he's in. And if he can protect himself, he'll be out there."

Tight end George Kittle (knee) returned to practice last week but was limited and eventually ruled out against the New York Giants. He was "full go" during the 49ers' first practice of the week.

"He's full go today," Shanahan said of Kittle. "I think we'll always be smart with him. We're not just going to throw him in with his normal reps and everything, but he's full go. He'll be involved in it all and I'm excited to see him out there going."

Below are Wednesday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Eagles, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.

49ers keeping Jimmy Garoppolo while starting Trey Lance wouldn't surprise Peter King

Will the San Francisco 49ers be able to offload quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to another team? They've certainly expressed a desire to do so. However, Garoppolo remains on the roster after undergoing shoulder surgery on March 8, which sent his stock tumbling. No one seems eager to trade for an injured quarterback who can't throw until late next month, at the earliest. The 49ers have repeatedly stated they are willing to hold onto Garoppolo and his hefty salary if they can't trade him. They aren't going to give him away for free by releasing him. That might mean a team like the division rival Seattle Seahawks scooping him up. Garoppolo is undoubtedly an upgrade over anyone currently in place for the spiraling Seahawks. San Francisco is unlikely to do their NFC West nemesis any

Deebo Samuel once again following 49ers on Instagram

Deebo Samuel is once again following his team, the San Francisco 49ers, on Instagram. That's significant considering the drama that ensued when the dynamic wide receiver stopped following the team, removed his profile picture, and all other 49ers-related content from his profile on the social media platform (h/t @OurSf49ers_). Deebo Samuel is once again following the #49ers on Instagram.

Are the 49ers mending their relationship with WR Deebo Samuel?

Late Wednesday night, San Francisco 49ers fans sighed in relief as wide receiver Deebo Samuel reportedly followed the team on Instagram once again, which could be a sign that the relationship is getting back on track. Samuel, who scrubbed his account of everything 49ers related on April 7th, which was around the time of his reported trade request, was not moved during the draft as the 49ers stayed firm with their decision despite fielding multiple offers for the star receiver. Now, almost a month later, Samuel has re-followed the team, once again utilizing his power of social media to express his

Frank Gore has this high praise for 49ers WR Deebo Samuel

By David Bonilla

When Frank Gore speaks, San Francisco 49ers fans listen. The man is an icon in the hearts of The Faithful. The former NFL running back, who remains the 49ers' all-time leading rusher, has a lot of love for his first NFL team too, always keeping up with new developments and often sharing his opinion on the team he admires most. Gore voiced his opinion on Friday, responding to a tweet asking fans to name the best wide receiver in the NFL. Gore's answer? Deebo Samuel. Not only did he call Samuel the best wide receiver, but he took it further, calling him the "best player all-around" in the NFL (h/t The Spun). That is some high praise from the future Hall
