The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 4 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle) was among the 49ers who did not practice. The hope is to get him out there on Thursday or Friday to gauge whether or not he can play on Sunday.

Dee Ford (back) did not practice and head coach Kyle Shanahan said the defensive end is expected to land on injured reserve later this week. Tight end Jordan Reed (knee) will also land on injured reserve this week.

The good news is that Deebo Samuel returned to practice. It has been just over three months since the wide receiver suffered a Jones fracture in his left foot during a player-organized practice in Tennessee. He was placed on injured reserve before Week 1 and can be activated to the 53-man roster at any point going forward.

"He's healthy, so we just want to see him out there and get back in the swing of playing football," Shanahan said before practice. "It's been a while since he has. I know he's been working hard on his own with football and everything with our trainers and everyone else with the rehab.

"We just need to see him go through three days, and what type of shape he's in. And if he can protect himself, he'll be out there."

Tight end George Kittle (knee) returned to practice last week but was limited and eventually ruled out against the New York Giants. He was "full go" during the 49ers' first practice of the week.

"He's full go today," Shanahan said of Kittle. "I think we'll always be smart with him. We're not just going to throw him in with his normal reps and everything, but he's full go. He'll be involved in it all and I'm excited to see him out there going."

Below are Wednesday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Eagles, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.
