The San Francisco 49ers received some more bad news on the injury front with tight end Jordan Reed and linebacker Mark Nzeocha headed to short-term injured reserve. Reed suffered an MCL sprain on Sunday against the New York Giants and will miss six-to-eight weeks while Nzeocha is dealing with a quad strain.
The 49ers will likely be without linebacker Dre Greenlaw (quad) and defensive end Dee Ford (back) against the Philadelphia Eagles. The latter could also land on short-term injured reserve.
The good news is that the offense could have wide receiver Deebo Samuel back soon. While there is no guarantee that he will play against the Eagles, the second-year receiver should return to practice on Wednesday.
"We should get him out there at practice on Wednesday," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Monday. "I know he's been chomping at the bit to get back. I know he's really made a lot of progress here in these last 14 days. I know he's pumped to practice. I know he's pumped to play.
"We'll see how he is. I know he's conditioned right. I know he's healthy. I know he's feeling good. But Wednesday will be his first time in a football practice since Super Bowl week of last [season], so we've got to take that into account also.
"So we'll see how it goes and how he does in these three days (Wednesday through Friday), and then we'll evaluate that at the end of the week."
Meanwhile, Samuel recently expressed on Instagram that he is excited to get "back in action" with his teammates.

Surprisingly, this question is being asked so frequently, but if we approach it objectively, the answer is quite straightforward. The short response is that the 49ers should not part ways with Kyle Shanahan or John Lynch, as they consistently win and most teams in the NFL would...
