Kyle Shanahan says Deebo Samuel should be back at practice with 49ers on Wednesday

Sep 28, 2020 at 4:18 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers received some more bad news on the injury front with tight end Jordan Reed and linebacker Mark Nzeocha headed to short-term injured reserve. Reed suffered an MCL sprain on Sunday against the New York Giants and will miss six-to-eight weeks while Nzeocha is dealing with a quad strain.

The 49ers will likely be without linebacker Dre Greenlaw (quad) and defensive end Dee Ford (back) against the Philadelphia Eagles. The latter could also land on short-term injured reserve.

The good news is that the offense could have wide receiver Deebo Samuel back soon. While there is no guarantee that he will play against the Eagles, the second-year receiver should return to practice on Wednesday.

"We should get him out there at practice on Wednesday," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Monday. "I know he's been chomping at the bit to get back. I know he's really made a lot of progress here in these last 14 days. I know he's pumped to practice. I know he's pumped to play.

"We'll see how he is. I know he's conditioned right. I know he's healthy. I know he's feeling good. But Wednesday will be his first time in a football practice since Super Bowl week of last [season], so we've got to take that into account also.

"So we'll see how it goes and how he does in these three days (Wednesday through Friday), and then we'll evaluate that at the end of the week."

Meanwhile, Samuel recently expressed on Instagram that he is excited to get "back in action" with his teammates.

Shanahan: 49ers WR Deebo Samuel's game-clinching run 'as impressive as I've ever seen'

With the game on the line for the San Francisco 49ers in their 24-16 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night, it was wide receiver Deebo Samuel who stepped up with what might go down as one of the team's biggest plays of the year. Coming out of the two-minute warning, the 49ers faced a third-and-seven from their own 38-yard line with no Rams timeouts remaining. A first down meant the 49ers would be able to run out the clock and earn a huge win after a demoralizing 43-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins the week before. Enter Samuel, who got the ball on a flip pass play the 49ers had been running with success throughout the evening. Samuel weaved his way through the Rams defense close to a first down, then plowed through some defenders to make sure the job got

Deebo Samuel, Raheem Mostert active for 49ers-Dolphins; Two cornerbacks inactive

By David Bonilla
Oct 11, 2020

The San Francisco 49ers have released the list of inactive players for their Week 5 matchup at home against the Miami Dolphins. These players will not suit up for Sunday's game. The 49ers listed two cornerbacks as inactive. Dontae Johnson (groin) and Emmanuel Moseley (concussion) were each ruled out on Friday. K'Waun Williams (knee, hip) was placed on injured reserve on Saturday. That means cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring) is active. Both wide receiver Deebo Samuel and running back Raheem Mostert are active. Samuel has been dealing with an illness and missed the team's two final practices of the week. He was listed as "questionable" for today's game. Mostert is returning after missing two games with an MCL sprain. On Saturday,
