Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Monday that San Francisco 49ers running back Tevin Coleman is
expected to miss "multiple weeks" with a knee sprain. While head coach Kyle Shanahan said running back Raheem Mostert is unlikely to suit up for Sunday's game against the New York Giants, his prognosis doesn't appear to be as dire.
Shanahan said on Monday that an MRI revealed that Mostert is dealing with an MCL sprain. Tom Pelissero reports that the 49ers are optimistic the running back won't miss an extended amount of time, which was the impression the coach gave.
That's good news for a team that suffered several injuries during Week 2 against the New York Jets, including season-ending ACL injuries to defensive linemen
Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas.
Mostert did not return with his teammates for the second half against the Jets. He finished the game with 92 yards and a score on eight carries while adding two catches for 15 receiving yards.
With Mostert and Coleman out this weekend, that leaves running backs Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson Jr. to carry the load against the Giants defense. The team could also promote JaMycal Hasty from the practice squad for some additional help.
