49ers optimistic Raheem Mostert’s injury won’t lead to ‘extended absence’

Sep 22, 2020 at 10:46 AM--

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Monday that San Francisco 49ers running back Tevin Coleman is expected to miss "multiple weeks" with a knee sprain. While head coach Kyle Shanahan said running back Raheem Mostert is unlikely to suit up for Sunday's game against the New York Giants, his prognosis doesn't appear to be as dire.

Shanahan said on Monday that an MRI revealed that Mostert is dealing with an MCL sprain. Tom Pelissero reports that the 49ers are optimistic the running back won't miss an extended amount of time, which was the impression the coach gave.

That's good news for a team that suffered several injuries during Week 2 against the New York Jets, including season-ending ACL injuries to defensive linemen Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas.

Mostert did not return with his teammates for the second half against the Jets. He finished the game with 92 yards and a score on eight carries while adding two catches for 15 receiving yards.

With Mostert and Coleman out this weekend, that leaves running backs Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson Jr. to carry the load against the Giants defense. The team could also promote JaMycal Hasty from the practice squad for some additional help.

Running back Raheem Mostert suffered an ankle injury on Sunday night during the San Francisco 49ers' 24-16 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. Head coach Kyle Shanahan isn't sure yet about the severity of the injury. "No, we don't know yet on Raheem," Shanahan told reporters after the game. "I'm sure we'll find out tomorrow. I know he tried to come back. I think he did at the end of the second quarter. He tried to come back in. I think he did one play in the third quarter, and then he couldn't go." Mostert finished the game with 17 carries for 65 rushing yards and added two catches for 11 receiving yards. The 49ers coach knows what Mostert means to his offense. The running back has proven to be a game-changer. "I think Raheem has shown

The San Francisco 49ers have released the list of inactive players for their Week 5 matchup at home against the Miami Dolphins. These players will not suit up for Sunday's game. The 49ers listed two cornerbacks as inactive. Dontae Johnson (groin) and Emmanuel Moseley (concussion) were each ruled out on Friday. K'Waun Williams (knee, hip) was placed on injured reserve on Saturday. That means cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring) is active. Both wide receiver Deebo Samuel and running back Raheem Mostert are active. Samuel has been dealing with an illness and missed the team's two final practices of the week. He was listed as "questionable" for today's game. Mostert is returning after missing two games with an MCL sprain. On Saturday,

The San Francisco 49ers' outing on Sunday against the visiting Miami Dolphins was horrendous. Not much else can be said of the 43-17 beating that head coach Kyle Shanahan's squad endured. Pro Football Focus released its grades from Sunday's game, and running back Raheem Mostert earned the highest marks for either team from the analytics site. Mostert returned after missing two weeks due to an MCL sprain and rushed for 90 yards on 11 carries. Much of the 49ers offensive line, surprisingly, graded well. Tackles Trent Williams and Mike McGlinchey received a boost from strong run-blocking grades. According to Pro Football Focus, the team's best pass blocker ended up being tight end George Kittle. 49ers quarterbacks didn't grade well,
