San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch joined KNBR on Friday morning and provided some injury updates heading into the team's Week 2 matchup against the New York Jets on Sunday.

The latest injury is to pass rusher Dee Ford, who Lynch said came in with some neck stiffness this week.

"We sent him for some imaging, and we're waiting to kind of hear those results here this morning," Lynch added. "We'll let you know as we know."

Tight end George Kittle suffered a knee sprain right before halftime during the 49ers' loss to the Arizona Cardinals this past weekend. He has not practiced yet this week but could still play on Sunday.

"He did sprain his knee," Lynch said. "Is it out of the question that he plays? No. George is obviously very important, and George is one of those guys who's going to want to play every time, so we have to be very judicious. But that's not to say we're ruling it out."

Lynch notes that there is the added element of getting on a plane to travel to the East Coast and how Kittle's knee could respond to the journey.

"We'll see what he's going to do today," Lynch continued. "I don't know how much he's going to try to do. I think it truly will be a game-time decision for George. He's so important to us. We've really got to be smart. That could be being smart, and he finds a way to play. It could be we decide to wait another week."

Lynch feels optimistic that Brandon Aiyuk (hamstring) will make his NFL debut this weekend, saying the rookie wide receiver is "trending in the right direction."

Like Aiyuk, center Ben Garland (ankle) has practiced this week and done an excellent job.

"I think we're going to kind of let that one play out," Lynch added. "That's another one that on these plane rides, sometimes, you get there and it doesn't feel so good. He'll be probably moving towards (a) game-time (decision)."

Ian Rapoport didn't offer much of an update on the ongoing contract negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and their standout wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk. However, the NFL insider emphasized one thing: The team is not entertaining trade discussions at this juncture. Reacting to Aiyuk's decision to unfollow the 49ers on Instagram, Rapoport couldn't help but chuckle at the latest development. This practice has become commonplace among players who are unhappy with their contract situations. According to Sports Illustrated contributor Noah Strackbein, who writes for "All Steelers" on the network, there's a level of confidence within the Pittsburgh Steelers organization that they can strike a deal for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk—and at a bargain rate. "According to a team source, the Steelers and 49ers trade talks are real," Strackbein wrote. "While nothing is imminent, they 'would be surprised if it didn't happen.' But it all comes down to compensation, and Pittsburgh isn't willing to budge much on price." While it seems unlikely that the 49ers would part ways with Aiyuk for anything less than a first-round draft
