San Francisco 49ers fans could see a lot of a familiar face this weekend when their favorite team takes on the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. That's because running back Le'Veon Bell is expected to miss "a couple of weeks," according to Jets head coach Adam Gase.
That could mean the 49ers defense facing a healthy dose of Frank Gore, the Bay Area team's all-time leading rusher and a fan favorite.
Le'Veon Bell could be out "a couple weeks," per Adam Gase.
Gore last played for San Francisco during the 2014 season, after spending his first 10 NFL seasons with the team that made him a third-round draft pick in 2005. He is in his 16th NFL season and had six carries for 24 yards during a 27-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
Gore spent three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts after his time with San Francisco and then spent one season each with the Miami Dolphins and Bills before joining the Jets this offseason.
The 37-year-old running back has rushed for 15,371 yards and 79 touchdowns in his 16 NFL seasons. He ranks No. 3 all-time in rushing yards behind only Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton.
Kickoff between the 49ers (0-1) and Jets (0-1) is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT) on Sunday, September 20.
