49ers expected to sign defensive end Dion Jordan, per Rapoport

Aug 5, 2020 at 8:10 AM--

The San Francisco 49ers evaluated two defensive ends — former Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks pass rusher Ezekiel "Ziggy" Ansah and former Miami Dolphins, Seahawks, and Oakland Raiders defensive end Dion Jordan — this week and have apparently made a decision on which one to sign. The team is expected to add Jordan, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Update: The 49ers officially announced the signing on Friday, August 7.

Both players reportedly visited this week to undergo physicals and COVID-19 testing.

The Dolphins drafted Jordan out of Oregon with the No. 3 overall pick in 2013. He spent two seasons with the Seahawks before joining the Oakland Raiders in 2019.

Jordan, 30, registered five tackles, two sacks, and a pass defensed through seven games with the Raiders in 2019. He had 13 quarterback pressures in 113 pass rush attempts, according to Pro Football Focus.

Jordan has recorded 91 tackles, 10.5 sacks, five passes defensed, and two forced fumbles through his five NFL seasons, not counting 2015. He missed that season due to a suspension for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substance policy.

Shanahan already confirmed that running back Raheem Mostert (MCL sprain) would likely be ruled out for this weekend's game against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. That means the team could enter Week 3 without both of its top two running backs on the depth

Rapoport discusses Jimmy Garoppolo's inconsistent performance during 49ers-Cardinals

NFL insider Ian Rapoport seemed a little surprised to hear about Monday morning's local criticisms of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo following the San Francisco 49ers' Week 1 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. "Is that what's going on this morning? Is it Jimmy G is terrible?" Rapoport asked on KNBR's Murph & Mac show Monday morning. While Garoppolo's numbers, at first glance, look comparable to his Cardinals counterpart, Kyler Murray, anyone who watched the game knows that the latter was the better quarterback on the football field at Levi's Stadium on Sunday. Much of that had to do with the nearly 100 rushing yards Murray had against the 49ers defense. You throw out his two kneel-downs to end the game, and he is right at the century mark. "I
