The San Francisco 49ers evaluated two defensive ends — former Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks pass rusher Ezekiel "Ziggy" Ansah and former Miami Dolphins, Seahawks, and Oakland Raiders defensive end Dion Jordan — this week and have apparently made a decision on which one to sign. The team is expected to add Jordan, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Update: The 49ers officially announced the signing on Friday, August 7.
Both players
reportedly visited this week to undergo physicals and COVID-19 testing.
The Dolphins drafted Jordan out of Oregon with the No. 3 overall pick in 2013. He spent two seasons with the Seahawks before joining the Oakland Raiders in 2019.
Jordan, 30, registered five tackles, two sacks, and a pass defensed through seven games with the Raiders in 2019. He had 13 quarterback pressures in 113 pass rush attempts, according to Pro Football Focus.
Jordan has recorded 91 tackles, 10.5 sacks, five passes defensed, and two forced fumbles through his five NFL seasons, not counting 2015. He missed that season due to a suspension for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substance policy.

49ers attend Arizona pro day to watch Jordan Morgan
Nearly all NFL teams were represented at Arizona's pro day, with only three teams choosing to skip the event. The San Francisco 49ers were among those in attendance to scout the draft prospects, including potential first-round pick, tackle Jordan Morgan. The Niners currently hold 10 selections in the upcoming draft, with their first pick at No. 31 overall.
Of note, it wasn't just any 49ers scout present at Arizona's pro day. NFL Draft Diamonds reports that it was the team's director of college scouting. Tariq Ahmad held that position before recently being promoted, along with R.J. Gillen, to co-directors of player personnel. It's assumed that NFL Draft Diamonds meant one of these two
Three Key Defensive Free Agents to Make the 49ers Better in 2024
Although the defense finished as one of the top defenses in 2023 under Steve Wilks, the San Francisco 49ers struggled in a few areas, like stopping the run, finishing the pass rush with sacks, and surrendering explosive plays. In this editorial, we will look to find three defensive players to keep the 49ers defense among the elite.
The 49ers have 22 players scheduled to become free agents, 12 being defensive players. The team must address the edge, interior, and cornerback positions. Improving these three areas will keep the 49ers on top.
Three defensive ends—Chase Young, Randy Gregory, and Clelin Ferrell—are set to become free agents. Per Pro Football Focus (PFF), the trio totaled 74 pressures (11 sacks, 17 hits, and 46 hurries). If the 49ers want to
