‘His jawline still looks incredible’: 49ers’ George Kittle provides an offseason update on Jimmy Garoppolo

Jul 9, 2020 at 5:39 PM--

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle finally had a chance last month to catch some offseason footballs from his starting quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo. The two were part of a contingent of players who gathered at the Brentwood Academy just outside Nashville, where Kittle lives during the offseason, for player-organized workouts.

Until then, Kittle had been catching passes from C.J. Beathard, who also lives in the area. The offseason workouts brought together all four 49ers quarterbacks, also including Nick Mullens and Broc Rutter.

As you know, those sessions ended on a sour note after one unidentified player tested positive for COVID-19, but it sounds like Kittle was happy to finally haul in some passes from Garoppolo.

Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area this week asked Kittle to provide an update on Garoppolo. How does his quarterback look this offseason compared to a year ago now that he doesn't have to worry about his ACL injury and recovery?

"He's a slightly better texter, but he's still pretty terrible," Kittle told Maiocco. "His jawline still looks incredible. But he does throw a tight spiral, and he's usually on the money for that. It was fun seeing him out there again. It was fun to catch from him.

"I've been in Nashville with C.J., so it's been awesome to have a Niners quarterback throwing me the ball. But being able to catch from Jimmy and Nick again was definitely awesome.

"Jimmy's humming, and it's just fun to see."

If all goes as planned, Kittle and Garoppolo will reunite for training camp later this month. Of course, as with all things, that could change depending on the COVID-19 pandemic. Kittle touches on his concerns surrounding that, too, while stating he is eager to get back to playing football.

You can listen to the entire conversation with Kittle below. It begins at about the 9:00 mark.

The San Francisco 49ers are hoping to get linebacker Kwon Alexander back this season. How soon that will happen remains unclear, but head coach Kyle Shanahan informed reporters on Friday that the team isn't talking injured reserve just yet. "We don't think [injured reserve is a possibility] right now," Shanahan said. "I never like to say 'minor high-ankle sprain' because high-ankle sprains are always a big issue, but it wasn't your typical one where they for sure go on IR. That's why we haven't put him on that yet, and we're hoping to keep him off." Shanahan also provided an update on Richard Sherman, who has been sidelined with a calf injury since Week 1. The 49ers had hoped to get him back this past weekend, but the cornerback had a setback last

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo spoke with reporters after the team's 24-16 win over the Los Angeles Rams. Here is everything he had to say. Transcript provided by the San Francisco 49ers Communications staff. I know you guys were confident that you'd be able to bounce back, but being able to actually go out and do it, what do you think you learned about yourselves over the last week and coming away with the win tonight? "It was really just about coming into this game, you could feel in the locker room throughout the entire week, it was a different mindset that everyone had. The last couple of weeks before this, no one liked that feeling. It wasn't who we are as a team and I think this week it just kind of

49ers-Patriots: Bill Belichick says George Kittle 'doesn't have any weak points,' opts not to discuss Jimmy Garoppolo trade again

By David Bonilla
Oct 19, 2020

Jimmy Garoppolo played his first three-and-a-half NFL seasons with the New England Patriots under coach Bill Belichick. The Patriots traded him to the San Francisco 49ers in 2017. Garoppolo became the starter for the 49ers, signed a five-year contract during the ensuing offseason, and last season led the team to a Super Bowl appearance. Belichick, while speaking with 49ers reporters via a conference call on Monday, was asked what he's seen from Garoppolo's development since the trade. "Well, we haven't played him since then," Belichick responded. "I haven't really studied him, but we'll take a close look. But I mean, it just looks like about what I thought it would like. I mean, he's a quality player. The 49ers gave him a high contract that, you
