‘His jawline still looks incredible’: 49ers’ George Kittle provides an offseason update on Jimmy Garoppolo

Jul 9, 2020 at 5:39 PM--

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle finally had a chance last month to catch some offseason footballs from his starting quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo. The two were part of a contingent of players who gathered at the Brentwood Academy just outside Nashville, where Kittle lives during the offseason, for player-organized workouts.

Until then, Kittle had been catching passes from C.J. Beathard, who also lives in the area. The offseason workouts brought together all four 49ers quarterbacks, also including Nick Mullens and Broc Rutter.

As you know, those sessions ended on a sour note after one unidentified player tested positive for COVID-19, but it sounds like Kittle was happy to finally haul in some passes from Garoppolo.

Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area this week asked Kittle to provide an update on Garoppolo. How does his quarterback look this offseason compared to a year ago now that he doesn't have to worry about his ACL injury and recovery?

"He's a slightly better texter, but he's still pretty terrible," Kittle told Maiocco. "His jawline still looks incredible. But he does throw a tight spiral, and he's usually on the money for that. It was fun seeing him out there again. It was fun to catch from him.

"I've been in Nashville with C.J., so it's been awesome to have a Niners quarterback throwing me the ball. But being able to catch from Jimmy and Nick again was definitely awesome.

"Jimmy's humming, and it's just fun to see."

If all goes as planned, Kittle and Garoppolo will reunite for training camp later this month. Of course, as with all things, that could change depending on the COVID-19 pandemic. Kittle touches on his concerns surrounding that, too, while stating he is eager to get back to playing football.

You can listen to the entire conversation with Kittle below. It begins at about the 9:00 mark.

No, he wasn't privy to some behind-the-scenes look at a game or batting practice for local stars. The Giants aren't even in town. They are in Los Angeles. It wasn't even the real Garoppolo and Kittle. The two were represented by cardboard cutouts, which will become permanent residents for this season, replacing fans in Oracle Park's seats. Garoppolo's and Kittle's were shown off among a group of other Bay Area celebrities. Between the two is the cutout of rapper E-40. Kittle made the following comment via twitter regarding his proximity to the 49ers quarterback (h/t to

By David Bonilla

One point. That's how close San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle was to being part of the highly-coveted "99 Club" in Madden NFL 21 by EA Sports. His rating of 98 was the best among NFL tight ends but wasn't enough to make him among the best in this year's installment of the popular multi-platform football video game. What does Kittle think about the snub? He, along with linebacker Fred Warner and punter Mitch Wishnowsky recently spoke with 49ers team reporter Keiana Martin to discuss their ratings. "They don't want me to be great," Kittle told Martin. "That's what it is. They don't want me to be great. Just
