‘His jawline still looks incredible’: 49ers’ George Kittle provides an offseason update on Jimmy Garoppolo

Jul 9, 2020 at 5:39 PM--

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle finally had a chance last month to catch some offseason footballs from his starting quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo. The two were part of a contingent of players who gathered at the Brentwood Academy just outside Nashville, where Kittle lives during the offseason, for player-organized workouts.

Until then, Kittle had been catching passes from C.J. Beathard, who also lives in the area. The offseason workouts brought together all four 49ers quarterbacks, also including Nick Mullens and Broc Rutter.

As you know, those sessions ended on a sour note after one unidentified player tested positive for COVID-19, but it sounds like Kittle was happy to finally haul in some passes from Garoppolo.

Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area this week asked Kittle to provide an update on Garoppolo. How does his quarterback look this offseason compared to a year ago now that he doesn't have to worry about his ACL injury and recovery?

"He's a slightly better texter, but he's still pretty terrible," Kittle told Maiocco. "His jawline still looks incredible. But he does throw a tight spiral, and he's usually on the money for that. It was fun seeing him out there again. It was fun to catch from him.

"I've been in Nashville with C.J., so it's been awesome to have a Niners quarterback throwing me the ball. But being able to catch from Jimmy and Nick again was definitely awesome.

"Jimmy's humming, and it's just fun to see."

If all goes as planned, Kittle and Garoppolo will reunite for training camp later this month. Of course, as with all things, that could change depending on the COVID-19 pandemic. Kittle touches on his concerns surrounding that, too, while stating he is eager to get back to playing football.

You can listen to the entire conversation with Kittle below. It begins at about the 9:00 mark.

Jimmy Garoppolo jokingly throws 49ers PR under the bus while explaining offseason silence

Jimmy Garoppolo is obviously the type who prefers the focus to be on anything except him. That has been evident from previous seasons, and it was apparent this offseason, as the San Francisco 49ers quarterback remained relatively silent toward the outside world. Yes, there is a pandemic taking place, but other players have been made available to speak virtually to the media. To put this into perspective, Tuesday's video conference call with Garoppolo was the first opportunity the media has had to ask the quarterback about Joe Staley's retirement. Staley announced his retirement on April 25, well over three months ago. For those interested in Garoppolo's response, he said, "We'll miss him in the locker room. His character is

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo spoke with reporters via a video conference call today, as the team begins training camp amid a pandemic. Here is everything he had to say. Transcript provided by the San Francisco 49ers Communications staff. It seemed like the 49ers doubled down on yards-after-the-catch guys in the Draft. And then just yesterday with TE Jordan Reed. I was wondering if that caught your eye also and what are your impressions of the new pass catchers that have been added to the mix this season? "Yeah, it's been a productive offseason, just you know, getting new guys, the guys that we've already had, working with them and even getting some guys back from injuries. So, it's a great group. It's
