This past week, offensive tackle Trent Williams hinted at a desire for his San Francisco 49ers to take a hard look at trading for Jamal Adams by tagging the New York Jets safety in an Instagram post. Another 49ers player may be interested in having a different high-profile player join his team.
Wide receiver Kendrick Bourne on Sunday tweeted at the 49ers and veteran free agent wideout Dez Bryant. Then, Bryant responded (h/t to Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area).
Of course, none of this means that a potential signing is imminent. It is likely just two players showing respect for one another and interacting on social media. It could also be Bourne helping his team look for options to temporarily replace injured receivers Deebo Samuel and Richie James Jr., who are expected to miss some time. Samuel suffered a Jones fracture in his left foot while James fractured his right wrist.
Bryant, a former Dallas Cowboy, is a three-time Pro Bowler and was named a first-team All-Pro in 2014. He attempted a return to the NFL with the New Orleans Saints in 2018 but suffered a torn Achilles tendon two days after signing.
Bryant, 31, has 531 career receptions for 7,459 yards with 73 touchdowns over his eight NFL seasons. His last game appearance came in 2017.
The Cowboys selected Bryant out of Oklahoma State with the No. 24 overall pick in 2010. The veteran receiver expressed an interest in joining San Francisco while searching for a new NFL home in 2018.
