49ers’ Trent Williams tags Jets’ Jamal Adams in self-photo signing restructured deal

Could Trent Williams be campaigning for New York Jets safety Jamal Adams to join the San Francisco 49ers? The offensive tackle posted the following photo on Instagram of himself signing his restructured contract with the 49ers ... and tagged Adams (h/t to Patrick Tulini).

It's important to note that Williams isn't signing a contract extension. The 49ers restructured the final year of his deal to give the offensive lineman, who did not play last year, some more upfront money.

"He's due to make $12.5 million," Ian Rapoport of NFL Network said in May. "He's still going to make about that sum, but the 49ers put some of this money upfront. A little help for a guy, remember, (who) didn't make anything in 2019."

As for Adams, he is seeking to leave the Jets. He named the 49ers among the teams to which he would welcome a trade. The Pro Bowl and All-Pro defender wants to be the highest-paid safety but has two years remaining on his rookie deal after the Jets executed his fifth-year option.

"I think it's mostly about money," Jets reporter Rich Cimini of ESPN said this week, "but I think the losing here in New York has worn on him. He's 16-and-32 since coming to the Jets, and I think that has really taken a toll on his psyche. There were times after games last year where he just looked distraught and said, 'I'm tired of this losing.'"

There wasn't a whole lot of good to take away from the San Francisco 49ers' 24-20 defeat against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon, and fans may not be ready to look at that game yet. Images of quarterback Kyler Murray evading 49ers defenders or wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins torching defensive backs may still be fresh in your minds. But how about just one memorable play? And maybe not the one you would first expect. No, it's not running back Raheem Mostert reaching a speed of nearly 23 MPH in a 76-yard touchdown run. It's a block by new 49ers left tackle Trent Williams, who absolutely obliterated Cardinals linebacker Jordan Hicks on an end-around run

The road-team Cardinals defeated the defending NFC champions 24-20. It may be too early for fans to point out any bright spots from the loss at Levi's Stadium, but Pro Football Focus had no problem doing so. Left tackle Trent Williams wasn't just the 49ers' best offensive player in the game; he was the highest-graded Niners player, period. In fact, Williams was the highest-graded player between both teams, edging out Cardinals defensive lineman Angelo Blackson's 85.0 overall grade. That's not bad for a player who missed all of last season with Washington. Williams earned an 88.6 overall grade, a
