Deebo Samuel headed to Nashville to join Jimmy Garoppolo, other 49ers for player-organized workouts

Jun 15, 2020 at 4:12 PM--

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been organizing throwing sessions at San Jose State with any teammates who might be in the area on a given date. Players like wide receiver Kendrick Bourne have been regulars, and have been joined on certain days by others like fullback Kyle Juszczyk and rookie Brandon Aiyuk, according to The Athletic.

The whole operation appears to be hitting the road, according to Akash Anavarathan of Fourth and Nine. The Garoppolo-organized sessions are on their way to the Nashville, Tennessee area where tight end George Kittle, wide receiver Trent Taylor, and quarterback C.J. Beathard spend their offseasons.

Second-year wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who has been training in Houston, Texas with teammates Jerick McKinnon and Trent Williams, will travel to Tennessee to join Garoppolo for the throwing sessions.

The transition from one location to another should not be too difficult. Players still are not allowed to meet face-to-face with coaches or even enter team facilities amid continued COVID-19 concerns. All of the instruction from coaches, which usually takes place in the mornings, has been conducted virtually via Zoom video conference calls.

Garoppolo was taking that information, meeting with his teammates, and putting it into practice on San Jose State's football field.

"Really, out here, I like to hear how they're seeing things, too," Garoppolo told Matt Barrows of The Athletic last week. "I like to teach them a route, how I see it, and ask them, 'How do you see it?' Because in practice you don't get that time. Because out here, it's a unique experience. Guys kind of get to let loose a little bit, too. So it makes things fun."

H/t to Patrick Tulini for the find.

San Francisco 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel finally agreed to an extension with the organization, getting a three-year, $71.55 million deal worth up to $73.5 million with $58.1 million guaranteed. The new deal now keeps Samuel with the 49ers through 2025, as he still has another year remaining on his rookie deal. How does Samuel's deal rank against other receivers who earned extensions this offseason, especially the other fourth-year receivers who received deals as well? Fellow fourth-year receivers A.J. Brown, D.K. Metcalf, and Terry McLaurin all signed extensions

On Monday, the San Francisco 49ers began padded practices. The contract extension for Deebo Samuel was also announced. It's a fun time of the year, as the team prepares to make another run for a sixth Super Bowl championship. We opened up the 49ers mailbag and had plenty of questions to choose from. Let's respond to a handful: Diana Kayatani: There's talk about Jimmy possibly going to the Seahawks. If and when he leaves, where should he go? Felix Watkins: Where do you think Jimmy is going? The world awaits news on Jimmy Garoppolo. Will he be traded or released? Where will he go? Will he be a starter or a backup? How does he get his hair to look so nice? I wish we already had the answer to those questions. The good

This first one won't come as a shock to anyone. Jimmy Garoppolo reported to the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara yesterday for his physical, which he passed. The veteran quarterback's days with the team are numbered, but he won't start training camp on the physically-unable-to-perform list. However, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan, Garoppolo is no longer with the team. "He was in this morning doing his throwing program," Shanahan told reporters before Wednesday's practice, the first of training camp. "I don't think he's still here. So he came in, did that, and he got out. I'll stay in communication with Jimmy. We'll keep doing that and take it one day at a time." Shanahan added that the quarterback did not ask to leave. Instead, he was excused by the
