The San Francisco 49ers have hired former Jacksonville Jaguars assistant linebackers coach Mike Rutenberg to be the team's pass game specialist, according to Field Yates of ESPN. He replaces defensive backs coach Joe Woods, who also served as the 49ers' pass game coordinator before leaving to become the defensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns.
The 49ers have hired former Jaguars assistant LB coach Mike Rutenberg as a pass game specialist. He previously worked with DC Robert Saleh in Jacksonville and should help fill the void created by Joe Woods' departure.
Rutenberg worked for the Jaguars since 2013. He started his coaching career in 2003 as an assistant to former Washington coach Joe Gibbs. He served Gibbs as an assistant to the head coach from 2004-05. Rutenberg spent time as the defensive backs coach for New Mexico State University and was a defensive graduate assistant with UCLA.
Rutenberg spent time as the Jaguars' assistant defensive backs coach and as a defensive assistant before his role working with the team's linebackers.
49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh and Rutenberg worked together in Jacksonville from 2014-16.
