Jalen Hurd, other 49ers post photos from passing session with Jimmy Garoppolo

Jun 10, 2020 at 4:54 PM--

Jalen Hurd is entering his second NFL season and appears eager to finally take a regular-season snap. He was unable to do so last year during his rookie season due to a stress fracture in his back that eventually landed him on injured reserve.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo organized a route-running session last month, and Hurd was among the group of receivers who participated. He posted photos on his Instagram page from a workout session this week with Garoppolo (h/t to Chris Biderman of the Sacramento Bee for the find). It appears to have taken place at San Jose State.

You can scroll through Hurd's photos below.

Hurd had the benefit of getting some work in at the 49ers facility this offseason because he was one of a handful of players with pre-existing injuries before the closure amid concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. NFL teams are still prohibited from conducting workouts or practices at their facilities.

"Jalen Hurd is doing really well," general manager John Lynch said in April. "One of the benefits is the rehab players have been able to be around the facility. They've been granted permission by the league, and we take great precautions with all those things.

"But Jalen is doing really well, and so he's cleared. We're ramping him up, and we are very optimistic. I don't want to be overly optimistic because, last year, we saw some progress, and we had some setbacks."

Added Lynch: "Jalen knows full-well that he needs to work his tail off so he can get back and be a big contributor, and try to earn opportunities to be a contributor for our team moving forward. We love his skill set. We love his mindset. Now, it's time to put it all to work."

Hurd wasn't the only 49ers player to post photos from the Santa-Clara-area workout. Fullback Kyle Juszczyk and wide receiver Kendrick Bourne did the same. You can scroll through those photos below.

Brock Purdy hopes to organize throwing session ahead of 49ers training camp

By David Bonilla
Apr 16

The San Francisco 49ers will hold a mandatory minicamp from June 4 through 6, officially concluding the team's offseason program. After that, the Niners will break for over a month and return to the Santa Clara facilities for training camp in late July. Between that time, starting quarterbacks will often organize throwing sessions with their receivers in an effort to build chemistry ahead of the rigors of training camp. 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has been unable to participate in such sessions over the last two years. The last overall draft pick in 2022, Purdy had yet to make a name for himself during his first offseason. Last year, he was still recovering from offseason surgery on his throwing arm. RELATED:

Rapoport: 49ers send clear message to teams inquiring about Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla
Apr 16

Ian Rapoport didn't offer much of an update on the ongoing contract negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and their standout wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk. However, the NFL insider emphasized one thing: The team is not entertaining trade discussions at this juncture. Reacting to Aiyuk's decision to unfollow the 49ers on Instagram, Rapoport couldn't help but chuckle at the latest development. This practice has become commonplace among players who are unhappy with their contract situations. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel similarly took this action in 2022 before requesting to be traded just before the draft. Things have yet to escalate that far with Aiyuk, but Rapoport sees his
