Coming up with a first-round mock draft is challenging enough. Coming up with a full seven-round one for every NFL team must be maddening. It takes a dedicated kind of analyst even to attempt to do so, fully knowing that just one trade or one unexpected selection in the first round could throw off everything that follows.
Matt Miller of Bleacher Report attempted a seven-round mock to kick off the month, and now Dane Brugler of The Athletic has done so. Like Miller's mock, Brugler has the San Francisco 49ers bolstering their wide receiver group by adding a talented rookie prospect. The selection itself, however, is a different one.
While Miller had San Francisco adding Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, Brugler has the 49ers selecting a different Crimson Tide player, receiver Henry Ruggs, with the No. 13 overall pick.
"The 49ers will be hunting for another offensive playmaker in this draft and Ruggs could be that guy," wrote Brugler. "He is a ridiculous athlete who could be a lot of fun in Kyle Shanahan's offense, forcing defenses to account for him, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle."
Below are all seven of Brugler's selections for the 49ers.
The 49ers lost veteran receiver Emmanuel Sanders to free agency. He signed with the New Orleans Saints. While Deebo Samuel emerged as a versatile threat on offense, there is some uncertainty surrounding others among the group like Trent Taylor and Jalen Hurd, who are coming off of injuries.
