Mock Draft Roundup 2.0: Jerry Jeudy to 49ers leads the pack

Apr 1, 2020 at 9:45 AM--

During each week leading to the draft, we will look at a collection of mock drafts from various sources and compile a list of the top prospects projected to head to the 49ers.

Last week, Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was the top choice among mock drafts for the San Francisco 49ers' selection at No. 13 overall. It is the team's first of two first-round picks and was acquired via a trade that sent defensive tackle DeForest Buckner to the Indianapolis Colts.

The 49ers also own their original pick, No. 31 overall, so this breakdown includes projections for that selection, as well.

We surveyed 48 popular mock drafts this week for our second roundup and tallied which prospects are the most popular choices for the 49ers at each spot in the first round.

The mock drafts include big-name sites from ESPN and NFL.com to smaller independent sites.

There has been a shift at the top spot, with Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy leaping past Lamb as the most-likely player headed to San Francisco at the No. 13 spot. We must again note that there are still some drafts that don't have the 49ers selecting at No. 13 because they either have the team trading out of that spot or have not updated their mock drafts since the trade for the pick occurred.

As for the second pick, selections on the defensive side of the football continue to dominate, which is understandable since most mock drafts have the 49ers going offense with their earlier pick.

Jerry Rice feels Jimmy Garoppolo wasn't ready, expects C.J. Beathard to start for 49ers-Rams

By David Bonilla
Oct 12, 2020

Jimmy Garoppolo didn't sound overly confident that he would start on Sunday night when the San Francisco 49ers host the Los Angeles Rams at Levi's Stadium. The Niners still seek their first home win of the season, and Garoppolo didn't play particularly well (OK, it was really bad) during this past weekend's embarrassing 43-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Garoppolo had missed two games while recovering from a high-ankle sprain and didn't look completely healthy as he went 7-of-17 for 77 yards with two interceptions and a passer rating of 15.7. "I really haven't thought that far ahead," Garoppolo responded when asked about his chances of playing in Week 6. "I guess we'll

Jason Verrett, Emmanuel Moseley bring swagger to 49ers secondary, says Jerry Rice

By David Bonilla
Oct 19, 2020

The San Francisco 49ers owned the top-ranked pass defense in the NFL last season. Most assumed that much of that had to do with the ferocious pass rush featuring Nick Bosa, Arik Armstead, Dee Ford, and others. While the 49ers rank No. 13 against the pass this season, Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice sees something in the team's secondary that he has not seen from a San Francisco squad in a while. "I'm going to tell you, I'm watching Jason Verrett, and I'm saying, 'Where did this guy come from?'" Rice said on 95.7 The Game's The Morning Roast. "The plays that he was making yesterday, and also Emmanuel Moseley, they had the swagger, they had the confidence, and you can see they brought something to that secondary that we hadn't had for a

Rapoport wonders if 49ers could draft a quarterback should season continue to unravel

By David Bonilla
Oct 12, 2020

Fans won't see Ian Rapoport on NFL Network over the next 10 days, but the NFL insider was on KNBR Monday morning to discuss the San Francisco 49ers' stunning loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Part of the discussion surrounded the poor play of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who is recovering from the high-ankle sprain that forced him to miss two games. Garoppolo's performance was enough to bench the starter at halftime in favor of C.J. Beathard. Although, head coach Kyle Shanahan said that was more to protect Garoppolo, who was sacked three times during the first half. "You could tell he was affected by his ankle,"
