The 49ers freed up some salary cap space after restructuring the contract of running back Jerick McKinnon. He initially had two years left in his deal with a salary cap hit of $8.55 million in 2020. Matt Breida and Kendrick Bourne tendered
Running back Matt Breida and wide receiver Kendrick Bourne each received second-round tenders. That means the two players are free to negotiate with other teams. The 49ers, however, would have the right to match any competing offer, and should they fail to do so, San Francisco would receive a second-round pick for each departing player.
