The San Francisco 49ers placed second-round tenders on two of their restricted free agents, wide receiver Kendrick Bourne and running back Matt Breida, on Tuesday. That guarantees each player nearly $3.3 million in 2020 — at the least.

There is still a slight possibility, though, one or both players don't play with San Francisco during the upcoming season. No, this article is not assuming the worst. Both are likely to remain with the 49ers.

Breida and Bourne are free to negotiate with other teams, though. Should one of those teams find itself very interested in either, it could make a better offer.

The 49ers would have the right to match any opposing offer. The other team would be required to hand over a second-round pick to San Francisco should the 49ers decline to match.

It would seem that neither Bourne nor Breida are ready to assume anything right now.

Bourne appeared to be a bit shocked by the news that a second-round tender was being placed on him.

Bourne then posted the following in response to a tweet explaining what might happen if another team is very interested in him.

Breida said the following.

Now, none of this means that either player is hoping to leave the 49ers. That would be assuming a lot. Maybe it means they wouldn't mind seeing San Francisco match a better offer. More money in their pockets would be a plus.

Or maybe it's just the two players knowing nothing is set in stone. This is the NFL, after all.

The news was a big win for the Niner Faithful, who on social media were excited to hear that both players are likely returning to the 49ers.
