New England Patriots color analyst Scott Zolak joined KNBR on Tuesday to offer his perspective on all of the Tom Brady speculation, including the rumors that the San Francisco 49ers could be in the mix for the future Hall of Famer.
If the name doesn't sound familiar, Zolak is a former NFL quarterback who last year called Jimmy Garoppolo one of the worst practice quarterbacks the Patriots ever had. He went on to clarify that the observation was made early in Garoppolo's NFL career, and things changed when game-time arrived.
"Damn, when we would get to the games, the lights would come on," Zolak told Greg Papa and John Lund. "Jimmy off the back foot, spinning it and throwing it into tight holes. You guys have seen it out there. There's a high-end ceiling with him at his age."
Zolak doesn't consider the 49ers a real possibility to acquire Brady, saying he believes it will likely come down to returning to New England or landing with the Tennessee Titans.
As for San Francisco, Zolak believes the team has a bright future with Garoppolo at quarterback. He also likes what head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch have built around Garoppolo. Zolak called George Kittle the best tight end in the game and felt the Patriots were going to try to draft wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
"Just the way it's built out there, and I know where this thing is going," Zolak said. "I think it's simple guys. I think I keep Jimmy Garoppolo. I really would. I like Jimmy."
Zolak adds that, before the fourth quarter in Super Bowl LIV, Garoppolo was on his way to being named the game's MVP.
