The #49ers are hiring former #Dolphins defensive backs coach Tony Oden as their new secondary coach, sources say. He fills the spot formerly occupied by Joe Woods — who has become the #Browns defensive coordinator.
Woods departed the 49ers to become the defensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns. News of San Francisco's interest in Oden was first reported by Matt Barrows of The Athletic.
Oden, 46, owns 16 years of NFL coaching experience. He spent time in various roles with the Houston Texans, New Orleans Saints, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Detroit Lions before serving as the Dolphins' defensive backs coach the past two seasons.
Oden was part of the Saints' Super Bowl XLIV championship team during the 2009 season and has been working with defensive backs since 2006. He worked alongside current 49ers defensive line coach Kris Kocurek during their time together in Miami and Detroit.
