Chiefs open as early 1.5-point Super Bowl LIV favorites over 49ers

Jan 19, 2020 at 7:28 PM--

Kyle Shanahan, Jimmy Garoppolo, and the San Francisco 49ers will face Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, and the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, two weeks from today.

The Chiefs are early 1.5-point favorites following each conference's title games. That means that, for the first time since Week 14, the 49ers find themselves as underdogs heading into a game. The New Orleans Saints entered that home matchup as one-point favorites over the visiting 49ers. San Francisco ended up winning the game 48-46.

The February 2 championship game will be the 49ers' seventh Super Bowl appearance in franchise history and an opportunity for San Francisco to earn its sixth Lombardi Trophy.

The Chiefs got here by beating the Tennessee Titans 35-24 in Sunday's AFC Championship Game. The 49ers beat the Green Bay Packers 37-20 in the NFC Championship Game to earn a trip to the Super Bowl.

Kansas City will act as the home team, utilizing the Miami Dolphins' locker room, while San Francisco will serve as the road team, utilizing the visitors' locker room.

The San Francisco 49ers (0-1) are looking to rebound from Sunday's season-opening defeat against the Arizona Cardinals with a successful trip to the East Coast and two games at MetLife Stadium. The defending NFC champions, who lost 24-20 on Sunday, open the week as seven-point favorites in their Week 2 matchup against the Jets, according to BetMGM. The 49ers enter the game with a lot of questions. One of the more important is the status of All-Pro tight end George Kittle, who suffered a leg injury before halftime. While he continued playing after the injury, he was ineffective as a receiving target in the second half and held without

'I trust Russell Wilson over Jimmy Garoppolo': Peter King picks Seahawks over 49ers in NFC West

By David Bonilla
Sep 7, 2020

Peter Schrager of Good Morning Football recently called the San Francisco 49ers one of the most disrespected conference champions in recent memory. With the regular season less than a week away, the disrespect seemingly continues. Not only is Peter King of NBC Sports not picking San Francisco to win the NFC, but he doesn't even envision the team winning its division. King has the 49ers earning the No. 5 seed in the conference and the Seattle Seahawks winning the NFC West. The reason? Quarterbacks. "San Francisco, up by two scores with eight minutes left in the Super Bowl and with so many key guys returning, is a

Raheem Mostert: 49ers focused on Cardinals, will attack Super Bowl goal one week at a time

By David Bonilla
Sep 7, 2020

San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert recently spoke with Kyle Shanahan. The head coach wanted to gauge where Mostert felt his teammates' mindset was after suffering a devastating Super Bowl defeat seven months ago and as the team heads into Week 1 of the 2020 season. There has been a lot of talk about the 49ers' mindset entering the upcoming season. They feel they have some unfinished business. You've probably heard the term "Legendary Revenge Tour" several times by now. While the team carries the Super Bowl loss with it, the loss is not going to impact its focus on the now. The players and coaches know nothing will be handed to them, and every game, every play, and every inch will need to be earned. "It's nice because everybody's on the
