49ers don’t just win the NFC West, they win the Super Bowl, says Michael Irvin

Dec 12, 2019 at 3:54 PM--

Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver turned NFL Network analyst, Michael Irvin, is high on the San Francisco 49ers and what they can do in the playoffs.

During NFL Network's Thursday Night Football pre-game coverage, Irvin was asked to pick a winner in the NFC West. Not only did he pick the Kyle Shanahan-led squad to win the division, but he also made a prediction surrounding their playoff fate.

"That Rams defense, they are playing well, but these two teams (49ers and Seattle Seahawks) right here, they are tops in the NFC West, and I love both of these teams," Irvin said on-air. "But we saw what happened to Seattle, just against that Rams team that you were talking about. They lost the game."

"This (49ers) team, a lot of people talked about when they had back-to-back-to-back games of playing teams with eight wins. They thought that would be to their detriment. I knew it would be to their advantage. They know how to play well on the road, wherever they have to go.

"Week 17, they will go into Seattle and beat Seattle. This team not only wins the West, I say they win the Super Bowl. This team, right here."

Hall of Fame wide receiver turned analyst Michael Irvin joins Bay Area radio every week to discuss all things football. So, of course, 95.7 The Game's Damon Bruce had to ask Irvin about the possibility of the San Francisco 49ers adding a dynamic and exciting player like quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson is not happy with the Houston Texans, which has led to speculation that the quarterback could request a trade. Naturally, that means nearly every fanbase that feels Watson would be an upgrade over their team's current quarterback situation is creating online chatter about a trade. "I had already heard about all of the mess that was going on inside of Houston, but I thought no way, no way it would get to this place," Irvin told Bruce, Ray Ratto, and Matt

It doesn't sound like the 49ers have much to worry about when it comes to the knee problems that sidelined rookie defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw for the final two games of the 2020 regular season, based on comments from team general manager John Lynch on Monday. Kinlaw sustained the injury during the 49ers' 41-33 Week 15 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Lynch was asked during his year-end press conference if Kinlaw's injury was related at all to knee tendinitis that flared up during the predraft process in the early part of 2020. The general manager responded by saying that Kinlaw's latest knee problem was simply a result of a hard bump he took to his knee when chasing down Cowboys quarterback Andy Dalton. "I guess when you say tendinitis, tendinitis is just some
