49ers don’t just win the NFC West, they win the Super Bowl, says Michael Irvin

Dec 12, 2019 at 3:54 PM--

Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver turned NFL Network analyst, Michael Irvin, is high on the San Francisco 49ers and what they can do in the playoffs.

During NFL Network's Thursday Night Football pre-game coverage, Irvin was asked to pick a winner in the NFC West. Not only did he pick the Kyle Shanahan-led squad to win the division, but he also made a prediction surrounding their playoff fate.

"That Rams defense, they are playing well, but these two teams (49ers and Seattle Seahawks) right here, they are tops in the NFC West, and I love both of these teams," Irvin said on-air. "But we saw what happened to Seattle, just against that Rams team that you were talking about. They lost the game."

"This (49ers) team, a lot of people talked about when they had back-to-back-to-back games of playing teams with eight wins. They thought that would be to their detriment. I knew it would be to their advantage. They know how to play well on the road, wherever they have to go.

"Week 17, they will go into Seattle and beat Seattle. This team not only wins the West, I say they win the Super Bowl. This team, right here."

San Francisco 49ers running back Raheem Mostert, armed with a reworked contract, is ready to take on the 2020 season. And yes, he will be playing, in case there was any doubt. Mostert confirmed during a video conference call today that he will not opt-out of the upcoming season as the NFL prepares to play amid a pandemic. Mostert has a lot to prove, after all, and he feels he and his teammates have the right mindset to respond to February's Super Bowl defeat. "I just want to go out there and be dominant," Mostert told reporters. "When I step out onto that field, I want everybody to say, 'That's a bad mo-fo. Here's somebody that we can't take lightly.' I want to put fear in other teams' eyes. That's my mindset. "Even when I'm playing gunner, I just

Why three of five Bleacher Report writers pick Seahawks over 49ers to win NFC West

While the Seattle Seahawks closed the gap a bit on the San Francisco 49ers with the trade for safety Jamal Adams, the Super Bowl runner-ups remain the favorite to repeat as NFC West champions. Bleacher Report may not see it that way, though. The site asked five of its NFL writers to pick each division's winners, and the NFC West wasn't the landslide victory for the 49ers that you might expect. In fact, three of the five writers went with the Seahawks, including longtime 49ers fan Matt Miller. Only Gary Davenport and Brad Gagnon picked San Francisco to repeat as division champions while Miller, Tyler Dunne, and Brent Sobleski each

More experienced 49ers hungrier than ever to win the Super Bowl, says Richard Sherman

By David Bonilla
Jul 27, 2020

Richard Sherman knows what it's like to win a Super Bowl. He also knows what it's like to lose a Super Bowl. The cornerback knew that before joining the San Francisco 49ers and relived the experience in February. Sherman feels there are valuable lessons to be learned in a Super Bowl loss, though, especially for a young and less-experienced team. He remembers a playoff loss to the Atlanta Falcons while with Seattle, and how it made his Seahawks hungrier than ever. "The next year, it was like the season couldn't start fast enough, and it couldn't go by fast enough," Sherman said during an Instagram interview with Pro Football Focus. "Everybody in our way was just simply that — they were in our way." Sherman sees the same thing with these 49ers
