49ers’ Jimmy Garoppolo says he wants opposing defenses to continue doubting him

Dec 8, 2019 at 1:48 PM--

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has had no shortage of doubters this season. Most credit the team's superb record, now 11-2, to the players around Garoppolo, and don't give the signal-caller too much credit.

It's a topic that Pam Oliver brought up while interviewing Garoppolo after the game, saying that defenses have a theory that, to defeat San Francisco, you should make the quarterback try to beat you with his arm. She asked Garoppolo how sick he is of hearing that.

"Let's keep that theory going," Garoppolo responded.

Garoppolo finished the game 26-of-35 for 349 yards with four touchdowns and an interception. The quarterback quickly turned the attention away from himself and gave credit to his teammates for the 48-46 road victory.

"It's a great team win today," Garoppolo continued. "I thought all three phases played great. The guys up front battled their ass off. It was awesome."

Two quarterbacks earned unanimous Tier 1 selections, but for the first time within this specific ranking, their names aren't Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady. Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs and Russell Wilson of the

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo wasn't with the San Francisco 49ers since the beginning of this roster overhaul. He did arrive midway through the first season, though, and since then, team decision-makers Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch have worked hard to add weapons around their franchise quarterback. The results of those efforts were evident last season, as the 49ers won their division and represented the NFC in the Super Bowl. Now, the journey back begins, and Garoppolo believes he has the tools at his disposal to get the 49ers back to the Super Bowl. The quarterback spoke with reporters on Tuesday via a video conference call and was asked if Shanahan's and Lynch's efforts to add complementary pieces have been good. "Absolutely," Garoppolo

Rumors swirled early in the offseason about the San Francisco 49ers potentially looking into signing future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady. It turns out, some of those rumors were true. The team's decision-makers thoroughly discussed the possibility, spending multiple days reviewing film of not just Brady, but their own quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo. You know, the guy who helped the 49ers win 13 games, a division crown, and home-field advantage in the playoffs on the way to the Super Bowl. In the end, the team decided early on that it made more long-term sense to move forward with Garoppolo rather than a now-43-year-old Brady. General manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan didn't keep Garoppolo in the dark, though. They kept the lines of
