49ers’ Jimmy Garoppolo says he wants opposing defenses to continue doubting him

Dec 8, 2019 at 1:48 PM--

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has had no shortage of doubters this season. Most credit the team's superb record, now 11-2, to the players around Garoppolo, and don't give the signal-caller too much credit.

It's a topic that Pam Oliver brought up while interviewing Garoppolo after the game, saying that defenses have a theory that, to defeat San Francisco, you should make the quarterback try to beat you with his arm. She asked Garoppolo how sick he is of hearing that.

"Let's keep that theory going," Garoppolo responded.

Garoppolo finished the game 26-of-35 for 349 yards with four touchdowns and an interception. The quarterback quickly turned the attention away from himself and gave credit to his teammates for the 48-46 road victory.

"It's a great team win today," Garoppolo continued. "I thought all three phases played great. The guys up front battled their ass off. It was awesome."

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo spoke with reporters for the first time since October. Of course, the first question presented to him surrounded his health. Garoppolo had been sidelined with a high-ankle sprain since Week 8. "The ankle's doing good," Garoppolo said. "We're in a good spot right now. It's progressed just the way I want it to, really. It's not at 100 percent, but it's really just about getting reps at this point, getting endurance back to it, the durability and everything. I think once we do that, it'll be in a good spot, so I'm pretty happy where I'm at." Garoppolo knows he needs to find a way to stay on the football field for his teammates. San Francisco owns a record of 22-8 with Garoppolo under center. However, the quarterback

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle and all of his teammates are probably getting tired of being asked questions about Jimmy Garoppolo. The perception of the quarterback is different from the inside than it is from the outside. Inside the team, everyone believes in Garoppolo and sees him as a player that can lead them back to the Super Bowl. Outside the building, everyone is trying to determine if there is a better option. Kittle got asked one more question about Garoppolo before he and his teammates disappear for a much-needed break following a disastrous injury-plagued season. The tight end responded as he always does, expressing great confidence in his quarterback and friend. "Honestly, I've never had to talk about someone so much in my life," Kittle

Will Jimmy Garoppolo return to the 49ers? 'I think we've spoken clearly to that,' says John Lynch

By David Bonilla
Jan 4, 2021

General manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan sat down to speak with reporters (virtually, of course) on Monday and discussed the future of the San Francisco 49ers. The two expect quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to be part of that future. "Yes, I want Jimmy back as (part of) our core," Shanahan said. "Good thing he's not a free agent. ... Of course I want our starting quarterback back and all our other starting players too." The two were asked about Garoppolo because the quarterback position is slated to be this offseason's top 49ers-related storyline, just as it was last offseason leading to free agency. Lynch and Shanahan backed Garoppolo as the starting quarterback next season, as they have repeatedly done each time they are asked about
