San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with the media on Monday and provided injury updates following the team's 36-26 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

Defensive end Dee Ford left the game with a hamstring strain and did not return. There is a possibility that the injury could be a multi-week concern.

"Any time you have a hamstring strain, there is concern it could be a couple of weeks," Shanahan told reporters.

Shanahan didn't rule out the possibility that the 49ers might make a move to help fill in during Ford's potential absence, but the team is more likely to turn to someone already in the building.

"We've got guys who can play inside, guys who can play outside, but it's one of the guys that you guys have seen already," Shanahan said.

George Kittle missed his second consecutive game after sustaining knee and ankle injuries during the 49ers' and Cardinals' first matchup in Week 9. The Pro Bowl tight end — and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo's favorite target — is in a situation comparable to previous weeks. Still, Shanahan has hope for Kittle's availability on Sunday night against the Green Bay Packers.

The coach didn't want to share too much about Kittle's injury, though.

"I know it was enough to keep most people out some time, which it has for George," Shanahan explained. "He's missed two games now, and I know it will go down to the wire again this week, but I'm holding out hope that this week will be different."

Then you have the potential return of Jalen Hurd (back) off of injured reserve, of which Shanahan isn't optimistic. The rookie wide receiver is unlikely to play in a regular-season game this year.

"I don't know if we've 100 percent ended [the possibility of getting him back], but it has not been looking good, so that's kind of out of sight, out of mind for me right now," Shanahan said. "We might have more of an answer on that later in this week just to finalize that. I don't think we have officially yet."

Shanahan did sound more optimistic about the potential returns of cornerback Jason Verrett and defensive end Kentavius Street, both of whom are also on injured reserve. Of course, their return would be dependent on roster needs.

"Those are guys that are working their hardest to get back," Shanahan said. "If we definitely had an injury at a certain spot, we would probably make that decision sooner than later. But they're guys, regardless, even if those injuries don't happen, they're guys who we want to get back out there practicing. Guys that have worked to get back, and we think will be healthy enough to, and we'll see if need be because of injuries. But if not, I'd like to give them a chance to at least get back out on the practice field."

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel (shoulder) and cornerback K'Waun Williams (stinger) left Sunday's game but returned. Shanahan says Williams should be fine, but the team will see how Samuel is feeling this week.

49ers vs. Rams injury update: CB Ambry Thomas (knee) questionable to return

By Rohan Chakravarthi
Sep 17

The San Francisco 49ers were able to get out of Week 1 nearly injury-free, as cornerback Ambry Thomas was cleared of a concussion, which was the lone listed injury following the game for head coach Kyle Shanahan. Unfortunately, the first injury of the game for the 49ers in Week 2 has arrived, as cornerback Ambry Thomas is questionable to return with a knee injury. Thomas had started the game at outside cornerback, but was replaced by veteran Isaiah Oliver, who moved inside, placing Deommodore Lenoir on the outside to start the defense's second drive. Potential reason why the

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan jumped on a conference call with reporters on Friday afternoon, the day after the team's 30-12 win over the New York Giants. Shanahan provided several injury updates. Linebackers Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles and Dre Greenlaw emerged from Thursday night's game with low-ankle sprains. Both are day-to-day. The good news is that players have some extra time off before returning to work on Monday, when the 49ers begin preparing for the Arizona Cardinals. The only other player who was banged up in the Week 3 contest is wide receiver Deebo Samuel. The 49ers initially feared a rib injury, but

This article was first published by Audacy and was syndicated with permission. 49ers tight end George Kittle worked up a quick rapport with quarterback Brock Purdy last season, as the duo connected on seven touchdowns in the final four games of the regular season. In two games so far this year, Kittle (six catches, 49 yards) has taken a backseat in the passing game to players like Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel. Still, he's impressed Al Sacco and Brian Renick of the 49ers Webzone "No Huddle" podcast from Audacy Sports with his series of pulverizing

TE George Kittle sets 49ers record vs. Rams

By David Bonilla
Sep 17

With his second catch on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, tight end George Kittle reached 400 career receptions. It took him 84 games to achieve the milestone, the fewest by a member of the 49ers and the fourth-fewest by an NFL tight end since at least 1970. Only NFL tight ends Kellen Winslow, Travis Kelce, and Jimmy Graham reached the mark in fewer games. With at least 2 receptions this week at the Rams, George Kittle would reach 400 career receptions, doing so in the fewest amount of games (84) by a member of the 49ers and the 4th-fewest games by an NFL TE since at least 1970 (Kellen Winslow-72; Travis
