It took just two games for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders to record his first 100-yard game with his new team. He hauled in seven passes for a team-leading 112 receiving yards with a touchdown on Thursday night against the Arizona Cardinals, all courtesy of his new quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo.
"Its one of those games where Jimmy had a coming-out party for me," Sanders told reporters after the game, "and I'm looking forward to just continuously gaining chemistry with him, and getting better and better. The sky's the limit."
The television announcers repeatedly said it was hard to believe that the two have only been working together for a week-and-a-half and that some of the plays between Garoppolo and Sanders would have been impressive even if they were long-time teammates.
"Just his body language on routes, I can kind of anticipate what he's going to do," Garoppolo said after the game. "I think we've got room for improvement, but I'm pretty happy with where we're at."
Garoppolo finished the game completing 75.7 percent of his passes for 317 yards with four touchdowns and a passer rating of 136.9.
"What a great night for Jimmy," Sanders added.
The veteran receiver went on to describe his quarterback as humble and hardworking.
"He's young, but at the same time, the sky's the limit," Sanders continued. "In his head, he wants to be great. He works hard. We stay after practice. We catch balls after practice. All that hard work is just paying off."
The 49ers are 8-0 and look to finish the second half of the season strong.
"Hey, 8-0," Garoppolo told his teammates in the locker room. "We've got a whole second half, boys. Let's go make it count. We've got something special."
