49ers-Panthers Injury Report: Joe Staley (video), Deebo Samuel return to practice

Oct 23, 2019 at 3:40 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 8 contest against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Starting left tackle Joe Staley returned to practice for the first time since suffering a fractured fibula in Week 2. He was limited to individual drills, but head coach Kyle Shanahan said there is an "outside chance" the offensive lineman could be in the lineup on Sunday against the Panthers.

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel (groin) and defensive tackle D.J. Jones (hamstring) were also limited after missing Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins.

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch jumped on KNBR this morning and discussed several topics. Among them was an injury update on second-year wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who he believes may miss games early on during the upcoming season. Samuel suffered a Jones fracture in his left foot during a player-organized practice in June while in Tennessee. "Deebo was really working," Lynch said on the Murph and Mac show. "That's the wonderful thing we've learned about this kid ... He's a worker. He wants to be great at football, and that sure showed in his first year.
