The San Francisco 49ers are dealing with a number of injuries leading into their Week 6 road contest against the 3-2 Los Angeles Rams. And a number of them found their way onto the team's inactive report, which is as follows:
- T Joe Staley
- T Mike McGlinchey
- FB Kyle Juszczyk
- QB CJ Beathard
- WR Jordan Matthews
- DL Jullian Taylor
- CB Ahkello Witherspoon
The Niners will be without their two starting tackles, Staley and McGlinchey, meaning rookie lineman Justin Skule will get his third start of the year, while journeyman backup lineman Daniel Brunskill gets the start in McGlinchey's stead.
Perhaps the biggest setback, though, is losing Juszczyk to a sprained knee, which should keep him out a few more weeks. San Francisco doesn't carry a reserve fullback on the roster, although head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters the team has contingency plans in place, should Juszczyk not be available.
Related to this note is the fact running back Jeff Wilson is active, and he'll combine with three other runners, Matt Breida, Tevin Coleman and Raheem Mostert. But Wilson isn't built like a fullback, and Juszczyk's role in the offense is entirely different than what Wilson has ever been asked to do.
The Rams, meanwhile, are dealing with a number of key injuries, too, including running back Todd Gurley (quad) and cornerback Aqib Talib (ribs).
Both are out for Week 6 as well, shown in L.A.'s inactive report:
Rams inactives vs SF: Todd Gurley, Aqib Talib, Clay Matthews, David Long, Coleman Shelton, Bobby Evans, Tanzel Smart. Ogbo Okoronkwo is active, as is John Kelly.
