George Kittle and C.J. Beathard (mostly Kittle) fire up the Iowa crowd during 49ers’ bye week

Sep 29, 2019 at 8:00 AM--

As other NFL squads prepare for their weekend games, the San Francisco 49ers are enjoying their bye week. That has allowed players to get out of town during some time off before returning to practice on Monday.

For quarterback C.J. Beathard and tight end George Kittle, it meant a return trip to their Alma mater, Iowa, for the Hawkeyes' Saturday matchup against the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, a game the home team won 48-3.

Beathard and Kittle helped get the Iowa home crowd fired up before kickoff. Well, from the looks of the video below, it was mostly Kittle doing the firing up, which should come as no surprise to 49ers fans given the tight end's always energetic personality.

The 49ers drafted both Beathard and Kittle out of Iowa in 2017. The team made Beathard a third-round pick and selected Kittle in the fifth.

Kittle has emerged as one of the best tight ends in football and earned his first trip to the Pro Bowl after last year's record-breaking season. Beathard is San Francisco's third-string quarterback but has started 10 games during his three NFL seasons.

Kittle and Beathard are in their seventh consecutive season as teammates, counting their collegiate and pro careers.

The San Francisco 49ers are hoping to sign tight end George Kittle to a long-term extension. The two sides don't sound as though they are very close in the negotiation process, however. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported earlier this week that the 49ers and Kittle's camp are not "particularly close on anything." Mike Silver of NFL Network seems to be hearing the same thing and on Friday provided an update on Kittle's contract situation. "There remains a pretty significant disconnect philosophically between the 49ers and George Kittle's camp. The 49ers believe they want to reset the tight end market and give him a great tight end deal.

Here is everything Lynch and Shanahan had to say. Transcript provided by the San Francisco 49ers Communications staff. Opening Comments: General Manger John Lynch: "Hello to everybody. I'll give you a couple of transactional things really quick. Number one, [WR] Richie James [Jr.] will be moving from the COVID list back to the active NFI with his hand and thumb injury. A corresponding move, [DB] D.J. Reed will be moved to the reserve NFI, effectively ending his season. That's a tough one for us. The earliest we might've had D.J. back, was early

By David Bonilla
Aug 6, 2020

Jay Glazer, in a recent mailbag for The Athletic, was asked by a fan what a fair price would be for San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle. The team is attempting to sign the All-Pro to a contract extension beyond his rookie deal, of which he is in the final year. How do you pay someone like Kittle, though? Yes, he is widely considered to be the NFL's best tight end. Yes, he is one of the game's most entertaining young stars. Kittle is also the 49ers' best receiving threat and one of their best blockers. It's like having an extra offensive lineman out there who happens to be capable of hauling in a deep
