49ers’ George Kittle referred to by The Rock as ‘The People’s Tight End’

It's no secret San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle is a massive fan of professional wrestling. During one of his 2018 postgame press conferences at Levi's Stadium, Kittle was already decked out in WWE gear for a wrestling event taking place that evening over at the nearby SAP Center in San Jose.

As it turns out, Kittle is developing his own fanbase from the WWE, too.

Following the Niners' 24-20 Week 3 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Kittle celebrated with a well-known quote among wrestling fans, albeit changed slightly to include the 49ers:

"Can you smell what the Niners are cookin'" is a direct reference to a quote from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's famous WWE tagline, which merely replaces "Niners" with "Rock."

Johnson took notice, too.

To make things even better, Johnson referred to Kittle as "The People's Tight End," again using another reference to The Rock's own title, "The People's Champ."

Kittle thought it was pretty cool.

The People's Tight End and his 49ers teammates will enjoy an early bye in Week 4 before hosting the 1-2 Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football in Week 5.

George Kittle's market value could have been set by Arik Armstead, says 49ers insider

The San Francisco 49ers and George Kittle, or his representation, at least, are having a difficult time agreeing on the tight end's value. The team would like to lock up the versatile All-Pro to a long-term deal, but it's that versatility that has complicated things. Kittle is the 49ers' most valuable receiver. He is also one of the team's best blockers. To just look at the tight end market would be an injustice. He is so much more. Kittle's agent, Jack Bechta, has described his client as a "unicorn." "He's just one of a kind," Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area told Will Brinson on CBS Sports' Pick Six NFL Podcast. "And the thinking is that even though

49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo, Mike McGlinchey, George Kittle explain why a Super Bowl hangover is 'not a possibility'

Several San Francisco 49ers players took part in this week's State of the Franchise event. One of the topics of conversation surrounded the possibility of a Super Bowl hangover. As tough as it is for a Super Bowl champion to claw its way back to the mountaintop, it is even tougher for the runner-up. All too often, that second-place team will regress the next season, but 49ers players don't see that happening with this squad. Why is that? What makes this 49ers team so different from past Super Bowl runner-ups? What makes its players think that they can get back and win it all, this time? "I think it's the guys in our building and the leadership that we have," responded offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey during the conversation with Keiana Martin and Greg Papa. "It's

Barrows: 'Someone in the know' feels George Kittle, 49ers could land on a contract worth $13 million a year

By David Bonilla
Jul 1, 2020

There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the long-term contract for San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle. Some even feel a new deal could fetch the All-Pro an annual salary up to $20 million. Naturally, when one person starts talking about those kinds of numbers, everyone does. That would shatter the ceiling of the tight end market. Right now, the top salaries for the position group remain under $11 million. To nearly double that when next year's salary cap situation remains uncertain might not be in the San Francisco 49ers' best interests, and at least one person doesn't believe it will come to that. "I recently spoke with someone
