49ers 2021 Pre-Draft Visit/Meeting Tracker
By Site Staff
Apr 6, 2021
This list will grow as the 2021 NFL Draft quickly approaches. The San Francisco 49ers have been meeting with potential draft selections, both virtually and in-person, since January. NFL teams are permitted to physically host only a limited number of prospects, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A vast majority of the interviews will be conducted virtually.
NFL teams will not hold local pro days due to the pandemic.
Below is a breakdown of the known meetings between draft prospects and 49ers representatives, as reported by various media sources. The representatives could be members of the coaching staff, front office, and/or team scouts. The 49ers' draft picks and scheduled interviews are listed first.

Rumor: Jets turned down 1st-round pick from 49ers for Sam Darnold
By David Bonilla
Apr 15, 2021
There is a rumor from Cecil Lammey of The Fan 104.3 and Football Guys that the New York Jets turned down a first-round pick offered by the San Francisco 49ers earlier this offseason for quarterback Sam Darnold (h/t to Matt Audilet of The Spun). Of course, this was when the Niners sat at No. 12 overall, before trading up last month to the No. 3 spot.
What on Earth would keep Joe Douglas and company from jumping at an offer like that? Lammey states that there were some concerns surrounding Zach Wilson's shoulder, and the Jets wanted to wait until the former BYU quarterback's pro day to evaluate the shouder's status.
Wilson's pro day was on March
Why PFF sees QB Justin Fields as a 49ers fit in latest mock draft
By David Bonilla
Apr 5, 2021
Pro Football Focus released its latest mock draft, courtesy of analyst Ben Linsey. The San Francisco 49ers are highly anticipated to select a quarterback following their recent trade up to the No. 3 spot. They'll have their choice of some good options. With Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson nearly a lock to go No. 1 and No. 2, San Francisco can go with Justin Fields of Ohio State, Trey Lance of North Dakota State, or Mac Jones of Alabama.
Linsey has San Francisco going with the player who has been the popular choice among 49ers fans—Fields.

Fowler: 49ers' draft moves could change plans for Jimmy Garoppolo
By David Bonilla
Apr 5, 2021
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is set to earn about $25 million this year. Whomever they pick at No. 3 overall will have a cap hit of about $6.2 million in 2021, per OverTheCap.com. If the gap between the two players isn't seen as great—and a lot of that may depend on actually getting the rookie into the building and seeing how fast he can progress—that could accelerate the plan to part ways with Garoppolo.
Maybe something happens before the draft. Maybe it happens during, after, or even next year. For now, the 49ers sound comfortable keeping Garoppolo around for another season while their rookie quarterback sits and learns. It's a prudent plan considering the roster is built to compete for a championship right now.
