49ers 2019 Training Camp: Nick Bosa’s injury highlights practice report roundup for August 7

Aug 7, 2019 at 5:03 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers have completed their 10th of 11 training camp practices from Santa Clara. The Wednesday session lasted about an hour and 45 minutes.

Quick Notes

There are some notable injury notes from Wednesday's practice. See below.

QB Jimmy Garoppolo threw his second interception of team drills during training camp after throwing a pick on Tuesday. This time, it was CB Richard Sherman coming away with the deflected Garoppolo pass on the final play of practice.

Rookie DE Nick Bosa left practice early with what appeared to be a lower right leg injury. Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh didn't sound too concerned about the injury.

"I think he's alright," Saleh said after practice. "I still haven't heard from the performance staff, but I don't think there's anything to worry about."

CB Jason Verrett also left the practice with an undisclosed injury after making a tackle on RB Raheem Mostert.

Both Bosa and Verrett are getting MRIs on their ankles.

WR Marquise Goodwin went down while running a route a few minutes after Bosa's injury but returned to practice.

Did not practice/new injuries: DL Arik Armstead (calf), DE Ronald Blair (groin)

Still out: Edge Dee Ford (knee tendinitis), Jamell Garcia-Williams (concussion), G Joshua Garnett (finger), LB Malcolm Smith (hamstring tightness), CB K'Waun Williams (knee), RB Jeff Wilson (calf)

PUP: TE Garrett Celek (back, concussion), C Weston Richburg (knee)

The next inductee into the Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame sat down with Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area for the latest episode of the 49ers Insider Podcast. Young wore No. 97 during his time with San Francisco, the only team he played for during his 14-year career. Another player wears that number now — defensive end Nick Bosa. What does Young, who spent some time coaching through the college and pro ranks after his NFL career, think about the talented second-year player? "Nick does a good job just in terms of one, being a very knowledgable player," Young told Maiocco. "He sees the game. You can tell he's been surrounded by good coaching. And then just his family history. His dad played, his brother played, and so

Schefter: 49ers, NFL teams may only be allowed 75 to 80 players at training camp

By David Bonilla
Jul 3, 2020

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that NFL teams may be required to limit the number of players who participate in training camps across the league when they begin later this month. At least, they are scheduled to start later this month. That would mean as many as 10 to 15 players from each team's 90-player roster might have to sit out meetings and on-field work. The idea is, of course, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic as the NFL continues to search for ways to increase the safety of its players and the chances of an uninterrupted season. "One source said he believed it's likely that teams will go to camp with 80-man rosters," writes Schefter,

ESPN recently took a look at all 32 NFL teams and named three training camp "nuggets" for each. What did that include for the San Francisco 49ers? It all starts with the Super Bowl LIV loss in February to the Kansas City Chiefs. ESPN notes that San Francisco will try to become the third NFC team to lose the Super Bowl and return to the big game the next season. Only the 1971 Dallas Cowboys and the 1974 Vikings have accomplished that among the conference teams. Dallas ended up winning Super Bowl VI against the Miami Dolphins while Minnesota lost Super Bowl IX to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Writes ESPN: "The past few teams
