Mock Draft Roundup 4.0: Only three players projected to 49ers among 68 mock drafts

Mar 27, 2019 at 1:40 PM

Each week leading to the draft, we'll look at a collection of mock drafts from various sources and compile the list of the top prospects projected to head to the 49ers.

We surveyed 68 online mock drafts this week and tallied which prospects are the most popular choices for the San Francisco 49ers, who currently own the No. 2 overall pick in next month's draft. The mock drafts include big-name sites like ESPN and NFL.com to smaller independent sites.

What is interesting about this week's round of scans is that of the 68 mock drafts reviewed, only three draft prospects were projected to San Francisco. Newly absent from the list this week is former Michigan defensive tackle Rashan Gary. Although, only one mock draft last week, an older one from Lance Zierlein of NFL.com, had Gary headed to the 49ers. He now has San Francisco landing former Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa.

Bosa continues to dominate when it comes to predicting who the 49ers will select in the first round. Linebacker Josh Allen of Kentucky and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams of Alabama are nearly evenly split when it comes to second place.

Below are the top-ranked projections for the 49ers among the mock drafts we examined.

Rank 49ers' Pick
47 Mock Drafts Nick Bosa, Edge, Ohio State
11 Mock Drafts Josh Allen, Edge, Kentucky
10 Mock Drafts Quinnen Williams, DL, Alabama

Below is a mock-draft breakdown for the 49ers' selection at No. 2 overall.

The San Francisco 49ers have reportedly signed former USC offensive lineman Jarrett Kingston to his rookie four-year deal. The team made him a sixth-round draft pick, selecting him 215th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. This leaves wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, the team's first-round selection, as the only unsigned 49ers draft pick. According to OverTheCap.com, Kingston's four-year contract is worth about $4.16 million. This includes a signing bonus of approximately $138,000 and a 2024 salary-cap hit of about $830,000. When asked about his pre-draft evaluations, Kingston said, "I feel like I am athletic. I think whatever like the ratings were, but I feel like I'm really athletic. The San Francisco 49ers' selection of wide receiver Ricky Pearsall with the No. 31 overall pick in the draft surprised many, with several analysts labeling it as a reach. However, one AFC general manager described the pick as "great." Baltimore Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta had hoped to select Pearsall and was disappointed to see the former Florida wide receiver chosen at the end of the first round. While he admits to being surprised by Pearsall's early selection, he thought the Ravens might have a chance at him later. "It was a great pick. I give those guys a lot of credit," DeCosta said of the 49ers' selection,
