The NFL has fined San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman $10,026 for unnecessary roughness during last weekend's game against the Chicago Bears, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. 49ers rookie safety Marcell Harris was also fined for his hit on Sunday against Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky.

Chicago wide receivers Josh Bellamy and Anthony Miller also each received $10,026 fines for unnecessary roughness.

Defensive lineman DeForest Buckner was fined for a face mask penalty, according to a separate report from Matt Maiocco of NBC Bay Area.

Harris hit Trubisky late in the fourth quarter after the quarterback had already given himself up and started to slide near the sideline. Harris tried to ease up on the hit after already committing to it, but ended up hitting Trubisky with his torso.

The 49ers trailed 14-9 at the time.

The play resulted in a short brawl involving several 49ers and Bears players, including Sherman. Bellamy threw a punch and Sherman retaliated in defense of Harris. Miller was also involved in the scrum.

Sherman was ejected with 5:28 remaining in the game while wide receivers Bellamy and Miller were ejected for the Bears.

"First off, Marcell was going to try to avoid the kid (Trubisky)," Sherman explained to reporters after the game. "In this league, they're going to call anything you do on the quarterback. At the end of the day, if you don't want your quarterback getting touched, don't run the quarterback."

Defensive back Tyvis Powell replaced Sherman.

General manager John Lynch defended Sherman's actions in defense of his young teammate.

"I never want to be a guy where it's ok to go get yourself kicked out of a game," Lynch said during a KNBR interview. "But I do think there's a time and I think that was a very appropriate time. I was a little upset.

"I've been around this league for a long time, and it's your responsibility to take care of your sideline. That play happened over on their sideline. They didn't like it but next thing you know, Marcell Harris was engulfed by the Chicago Bears, and Sherm had to go in there and get him.

"I mean, it was like a hockey melee. I was ready to go in there. He was in there all alone."
